coral beauty and corals

Hey all,

Thinking of getting a coral beauty, but reading online it says it will nibble my corals. Just wondering if anyone has had experience with any dwarf angel fish in their reef tank?

Thanks

My beautiful coral beauty that was just introduced into the DT (LPS, softies, zoas) hasn't nipped anything yet.

Mine is safe with my SPS and zoas. He does not get along with other fish though.

It's an angel. Flip a coin. Some will, some won't, some might.

Dwarf angelfish usually don't eat corals. What they find tasty is algae that may grow on your corals. When people see their dwarf angelfish nipping at their corals that's what the angelfish are trying to eat. Your corals may or may not like the nipping.

My little Golden angle nips between the polyps once and a while but always picking at the rocks

Mine picks on the rocks and nothing else that I have seen.

What he said.

In my own experience (others may have differing opinions from their experience); the order of pygmy angels from worst coral munchers to relatively non-coral munchers:

Lemon Peel Angel (Worst)
Coral Beauty
Gold Flake Angel
Golden Angel
Flame Angel
Potter's Angel
African Flameback (Least)

My dwarf angel loved algae.... And my acans and brain coral.
So bye bye he went

Sigh and I really wanted the red coral beauty too, but I do like my corals. Back to the drawing board

Thanks for all your replies

You can always try him. And if he starts.nipping coral then remove it.

Actually according to a survey done on RC, coral beauty is one of the most reef safe angelfish (large or dwarf):
Coral Beautty, safe 74, not safe 10, percentage 88%. The sample size is 84 which is pretty good.

coasting: yeah i think i might end up doing that

george: that is a pretty good sample size, another pro haha

I agree 100% - I have had mine for over 10 years and it is a model citizen but I know of others that had them and were a problem fish.

3 years in with my flame angel and I've never seen him nip anything yet
