FS: Colony of Not-ORA Green Birdsnest $100 - Burnaby

Asking $175 OBO
Not looking for any trades right now - cash only !!

Crazy lowballers will be ignored
Delivery available for gas in the GVRD, but you get what I bring so I prefer you come look at it, and my truck is a gas PIG
Delivery will be based on kms.
And if you commit on delivery there's no backing out

I've had this one for 3 years this coming June
Current size is approx 10-12"wide x 8"deep x 6-7"tall
It will not comfortably fit in the bottom of a salt bucket, so come prepared with something for it to fit in, or risk breaking off some of the outer growth.
No worries as it will grow back in short fashion

This is the piece I brought home from Rich's July 2012

This is what it looks like today (it's a bit po'd from being out of the water)

It's now in my QT/Frag tank

Am I asking too much ? :noidea:

I'll take some honest opinions thanks

Is that its true color now? Is your white balance correct? Looks different than the first frag pic. If it is a true ORA green birdsnest, and such a huge one, I think that price is very fair, cheap actually.

For color reference, here is a recent pic of my ORA green birdsnest. And no post processing here, pic is straight from my camera.

That's a pretty big colony. But birdnest arnt worth much cuz they grow really fast. Did urs lose all its color or is it Cuz of picture lighting? Good luck with sale. Sum1 will buy it.

An ORA green birdsnest is no ordinary birdsnest. They add a lot of bright color to a tank, and are a nice contrast with other SPS.

Thanks guys

Same critter as the first pic
Doesn't like my tank. Grows well but is a bit pale for my liking.

Ian/Ram3500 and Warren/Wardog have pieces from me and it colored right up in their tanks ...

Reef Pilot 04-22-2015 12:44 AM

I forgot, but what kind of lights do you have in your tank?

gregzz4 04-22-2015 12:48 AM

DT is 8 x 54w ATI

Maybe it'll color up in the frag tank. Although it's only a 65w PC 10K, there's no NO3 and PO4 in there

Maybe it's your color spectrum,... don't know. I have the Radions (had T5s initially), and very happy with the color of my SPS. Of course everything else in the tank has to be right too, esp P04, which is what I found to be the biggest killer of SPS color with my issues last summer. And with my bio pellet reactor, N03 is always zero.

gregzz4 04-22-2015 02:09 AM

My NO3 never registers and PO4 is always 0.03-0.02

Thanks for your help Walter

So, anyone else think my price is reasonable ?

Is anyone even interested in owning it ?

Aquattro 04-22-2015 02:53 AM

Not sure on price, mine was bigger and I gave it away. But for lighting, it was bright green across the room under MH, T5 or LED. Added a great blast of color to the tank and was an attention grabber for anyone visiting.
I kept a frag and am starting all over again.

I think the problem is the market is smaller for large pieces like that. Hard to fit in an existing tank.

That, and the fact that mine is dull, and there are all kinds of frags floating around here right now ...

This is why I'm asking what others think of my price.

Not interested in giving it away so I'll sell it for a fair price if I get a consensus

Aquattro 04-22-2015 03:30 AM

Colonies are strange that way. I bought a huge stag colony for $100. Needed a rubbermaid tote to move it. Frags easily sold for $25 a pop.

I guess see what kind of offers you get.

gregzz4 04-22-2015 03:46 AM

I was hoping to sell it intact as 1 big-butt colony for someone's tank ...

May have to break it up

Reef Pilot 04-22-2015 03:52 AM

Yeah, that pale color is a mystery. It should be bright green with a brown base. And especially if it seems to grow well. Must be missing something, whether a mineral, a nutrient, light, symbiotic algae, or what?...

Shape and density of the branches look good. So if it brightens up in someone else tank, and at that size, they would have quite the show piece.

Myka 04-22-2015 01:47 PM

When I sold off the colonies out of my 90 most of them sold for $100 or less. Looking back, I should have fragged them and made more money, but I didn't have the heart to hack them up. I had some really sweet pieces. If you get the right person walking by that really wants that coral you'll get the price, but those chances are slim - especially when it's browned out. Personally, I would never buy a colony because the growth pattern will change when it's moved to a new tank and it will look funny.

gregzz4 04-22-2015 11:57 PM

Thanks Mindy
Guess I'll just have to sit on it and see if it changes in the frag tank.

gregzz4 04-23-2015 01:11 AM

I just talked to Rich, whom I bought the frag from. He thinks it is NOT an ORA. Explains the lack of neon green, and the brown-ness.
So with that in mind, and in light of recent discussions, Imma gonna drop my price to $100
I want to get this big boy outta my frag tank so I can do other things with it.

gregzz4 04-24-2015 12:58 AM

Bump

gregzz4 04-24-2015 05:47 AM

New title, new price

Thanks for the title update Kien

gregzz4 04-24-2015 06:09 AM

Maybe this is a better shot
Not the current size, but a better representation of the color
Note that my camera can't handle all the bright light, so some is washed out

http://i749.photobucket.com/albums/x...psphscesej.jpg

gregzz4 04-29-2015 12:21 AM

$80
I'd really like to get this critter outta my 20g tank
Current size is approx 10-12"wide x 8"deep x 6-7"tall

gregzz4 04-29-2015 01:44 AM

After thought ...
I could use a couple BRS/Shlobster 1.1ml dosing pumps

gregzz4 04-30-2015 04:46 AM

OK, I've had one bite for this sale but haven't heard back ...

I'm taking this beast-of-a-coral into J&L tomorrow night and that's the end of it

I want to put some fish in my QT and this thing is messing up my plans

So, final offers are entertained until 3PM Thursday
After that it's off to the store and hopefully someone gets it before it has issues in-store :surprise:

I'm not saying the store has issues :surprise:
I'm only saying that transferring it from my tank to their's may upset it ....

gregzz4 04-30-2015 06:26 AM

Last chance at this huge colony ...

When I get home from work tomorrow it's going to J&L

bsung413 04-30-2015 09:06 AM

Not trying to upset you or anything, all has came from a good heart.

I saw one huge pieces of birds nest at J&L the other day not sure if it's still there.

So before you bag it call them! Make sure they have room and is interesting in trading it in so you don't go for nothing.

Anyways wish you luck and really hoping someone will take it from you and they can make frags off it to sale?

gregzz4 04-30-2015 01:21 PM

Thanks
I already spoke with Katie last night and was told she'd make room for it if need be.

gregzz4 04-30-2015 04:51 PM

Pending :-)

gregzz4 05-01-2015 04:36 AM

Was picked up this afternoon

Reef Pilot 05-01-2015 01:58 PM
