Long Nose Butterfly
Can this fish be placed in a reef tank. The store that sold it to me said yes but I have read otherwise. Anyone know or have one?
|
Is it this Longnose Butterfly?
|
I had one I had to take back because it would persistently pick at my clam mantles.

Ya, thats the one. I just took it back and traded it for a Clown Tang. I checked it out on this site I always use for info. and it said it was reef safe and do fine with other tangs and tank mates. Now I am starting to read they are bullies and difficult to care for. I can't win.

Their is lots of flow in the tank. Since I let him go he's been swimming in the current. I let him go after lights off. The only fish up was the Scopa Tang. He dosen't seem to be bothering the Clown like he did the Naso Tang. But this is only the first few hours.
I put some brocli on a string in their. Never tried it before but figured it was worth a shot. Do you think I should soak it in garlic or anything? |
I don't think he'll try the broccoli this soon going into the tank. I'd keep him busy with some romaine or nori.
|
No new groceries. Only brocli in the fridge I didn't think he would eat it but I thought the other two might. What is Nori?
|
nori is dried seaweed used in making sushi.

I believe it has always been known the acanthurus tangs are noted for their aggression. Clown tangs are actually not as aggressive as say, the sohal... but they are constant swimmers/pacers of the tank, ime. |
Thanks for the info guys. I hope he does ok in their. He seems to have already found a good spot to sleep at lights out and the other fish really don't seem to bother him. The Clown Tang is only about 2-3 inchs right now so their is lots of room for him to swim. I don't think he's going to grow too fast so hopefully by the time he starts to get bigger I will have a bigger tank.

other than picking on clams are the long nose ok for a reef ?
|
A 72 gallon...
If you're going to keep tangs, it would help to know what most people are feeding them. |
The long nose are good for eating worms and other creatures from your liverock. Along with Aptasia (glass anemone).
