LF - Blue Spot Jawfish (YVR)
Anyone want to part with one or have you seen any at any of the local LFS???
|
JL had a few last month, at least 3-4 IIRC. Maybe they'll get some more soon? Expensive though. $150 or something.
|
worth it IMO.
Pretty sexy fish and entertaining to boot. I pop into JL fairly regularly as I live 5 mins away...must have missed them somehow. |
I saw 2 yesterday at jl
|
Saw one today at J&l
|
Not local for you, but Bayside in Saskatoon has one right right now (had two), same price as J&L.
|
Thanks all.
Will have a look at JL tonight. |
I seem to remember this is a cooler water fish. Am I wrong about it?
|
doubtful.
Its from the eastern Pacific tropics...like Mexico. |

definitely a cooler water fish, collected from deeper waters..... our warmer tank temps open their skin up to bacterial infections..... prolly why it is rare to hear of people keeping them long term....

Really depends on which article you read. Bob Fenner indicates seeing them at 30 foot depths and professes them as a cooler water species who don;t do well in typical reef aquariums Dr. Fosters and Smith indicate they generally suffer from very poor collection methods and that this is where their reputation for susceptibility to bacteria comes from. They indicate this fish will do fine in a typical reef tank. I do know of one hobbyist who kept one for 2 years in a 50 gallon that was on average around 78 degrees f. I'm on the fence with this fish. Have always wanted one but might just get a gold specs instead for 1/10th the money. |
A client of mine kept a breeding pair at 82F. I lowered the temp to 78 but they still bred at 82.

If I hooked up my chiller, I would have no problem maintaining a 74-75 degree average temp. Thanks for sharing that experience Myka. |
