Attempted Hack?

Woke up this morning to an email saying that my account had 5 attempted logins at 2:20 am. Checked the ip address and it's on hacker blacklist coming out of China. Did this happen to anyone else?

Personally I would never even consider any e-mail with that kind of message as no reputable site would be sending an e-mail to advise such a thing IMO.
I just automatically junk anything like that.
Even if it reportedly comes from a site I am a member of, I certainly won't click on any links, as I continually get e-mails proportedly from someone I know or a site I'm a member of, but if fact the info showing is false.
If concerned, I'd click on my Norton 360 to see if anything was really happening.

The email is a valid warning from our board. Hackers in China are attempting to gain access to user's accounts by guessing passwords.

rayjay 02-20-2015 03:20 PM

How does one know if an e-mail is actually from you or from some fraudulent site?
Was the e-mailing you sent out just a selective membership?
I didn't receive anything other than a "junk" e-mail proportedly from Apple with a sender listed as ----.on.microsoft.com.
Same message that I've had hacking attempts.

Aquattro 02-20-2015 03:47 PM

The email is sent to the account holder that has had their account tampered with. It's just a warning, and has no links. I think you're misunderstanding the issue.

Lol...
WHY?

Same reason they try to sign up with spammer accounts, post things like iphone ads, etc. They get paid some amount for every link they post. I've gotten very good at filtering them at sign up (sometimes 30 per day) and now I guess they want to try existing accounts.

Just make sure you have a complex password, should be fine.

So they are not trying to steel my reef secrets or plagiarize my sarcastic PM's?

That's a relief.

Nobody could replicate your style, we'd be onto them in a second!!

rayjay 02-20-2015 04:29 PM

OK thanks, I was thinking "blanket" type e-mails like regular junk e-mails I guess.

At the extent of sounding like an idiot, what is the motive for trying to access a fish hobbiest message board account? My 2 emails and online banking use 3 different passwords and my other online accounts forums whatever use different passwords. What possible benefit could they have from a message board?

WarDog 02-21-2015 04:46 PM

Advertising. Its the new Devil.

They Plan to hack your account, and then start a post that says you are keeping tangs in a 10G tank!

gobytron 02-24-2015 08:32 PM
