Ro/di help

The unit won't run past 30 psi no matter what it's not leaking anywhere so not sure why it won't run higher? Most of the unit was already assembled when I bought it. It is a puratek 100gpd unit

canadianbudz604 12-28-2014 01:25 AM

Ro filter

Is this backwards?

jason604 12-28-2014 02:22 AM

Check the inlet pressure to the unit. It should be 60

canadianbudz604 12-28-2014 02:27 AM

How do I check it?

jason604 12-28-2014 02:35 AM

Pressure gage. Isn't that how u checked that urs was 30psi?

canadianbudz604 12-28-2014 02:40 AM

Gauge

It's built into the ro machine

That will tell you the incoming pressure. You should have a regulator on your incoming line to the house, maybe it needs to be turned up.

canadianbudz604 12-28-2014 03:15 AM

Hmm

I live in a townhouse but where would I find it?

hillegom 12-28-2014 03:22 AM

Is there a maintenance person for the complex that you could ask?
Otherwise, in a house it is located where the water enters the buildiing. ( inside the house) Where the main shutoff is.

duncangweller 12-28-2014 03:22 AM

you probably wont. I also live in a townhouse and as they try to make us all use less water they put a tiny line onto each tap in the house so you have bugger all pressure. my unit wont go past 20psi without a booster pump.

my water lines are all connected to the main in the cupboard under the stairs in the garage where my water tank is. the mains are tiny so I have no way of increasing pressure.

Dunc

Pressure

So does it matter that it will only run at 30psi???

duncangweller 12-28-2014 04:21 AM

It's not brilliant.

First of all it takes forever to make a bucket of water. Secondly, you'll go through filters quicker and thirdly I think you waste away your membrane quicker.

From what I've read I believe you want to be around 45-60 psi for optimum water:waste ratio.

canadianbudz604 12-28-2014 05:01 AM

Wow

Man I should have just stuck with the store water. Now I've got to spend another $100 for a booster pump. Good thing I kept the receipt so back the damn thing goes.

canadianbudz604 12-28-2014 05:48 AM

Hmmm

Is there a restrictor of some sort that I'm missing?

Aquattro 12-28-2014 05:51 AM

Nope. If the gauge says 30psi, that's all you have going to the unit.

canadianbudz604 12-28-2014 05:56 AM

Plumbing

I'm using the faucet adaptor. If I plumbed it under the sink would it change anything?

hillegom 12-28-2014 05:59 AM

you'll need a booster pump and a high pressure shut off. in other words , a pressure switch

input80 12-28-2014 06:01 AM

Return it if you can Jesse.

canadianbudz604 12-28-2014 06:06 AM

Grrrrrr

Ya I'll take it back and just go back with the Safeway water. **** me off

monocus 12-28-2014 08:19 AM

rodi

a booster pump from aquasafe is only $ 65.i put one on my rodi and it boosted the output to 110 from 50

canadianbudz604 12-28-2014 05:10 PM

Ohhh

Just another $65?????

mark 12-28-2014 05:13 PM

not sure the amount of water you go through but might find you recover that $65 rather fast compared to buying (and packing) water from the store

duncangweller 12-28-2014 05:37 PM

I would agree. Its rubbish having to pay extra when you didn't expect it but I'd pay $65 any day over hundreds of trips to safeway

canadianbudz604 12-28-2014 07:13 PM

ro/di

i use the faucet adapter, so when im not using the system what do i do with it? put it away wet or drain it or what? ive never used one of these things before so maybe i don't even have it hooked up right or something. i don't know anything about it.

hillegom 12-28-2014 07:58 PM

The RO membrane needs to stay wet.
So put it away wet.

I'd pay 65 over one trip to the store to carry water back :)

input80 12-28-2014 08:42 PM

Get the booster pump

You may want to bite the bullet & get the pump if that's the cost Jesse.
Texted you the link.

canadianbudz604 12-28-2014 09:30 PM

Pump

I actually found a tap outside of my house in the back that will run it at 45psi so I may not need the booster. I'll probably end up buying it anyways though

input80 12-28-2014 09:41 PM

You plan on taking it outside each time you need water? did you get the link? I think that sale is up tonight @ midnight.

canadianbudz604 12-28-2014 09:59 PM

Line

Lol No ill plumb it inside. But I am ordering the pump

WarDog 12-28-2014 10:27 PM

Depending on the age of your place all new outside spigots are usually tee'd off before your pressure regulating valve (PRV). This is a good score, just ensure the line does not freeze!

hillegom 12-29-2014 12:10 AM

Good for you that you are still ordering the pump.
RO membranes work best with a minimum of 60 psi

reefwithareefer 12-30-2014 02:29 AM

Not saying this is it, but I have one of those and my pressure would be up and down, whether it was on or off. I found that the waste water was always running and that led to finding that the waterline connection on the RO part, not being tightened and air was either being sucked in or pushed out so the pressure was always low. Tightened it back up and it worked great.
