Ryan's rock flower nano

Hi guys did some big upgrades on my nano today and took the time to take pics along the way. so last month I painted my fireplace and added a floating shelf for my amp and telus box. http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/a...psg7gxz4f4.jpg
Middle of painting
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/a...psiglxcnba.jpg
Ok so this is what I started with you can see in this pic the nano on ugly bulky stand to the left today I dicided to build another floating shelf plus run drain and return thru wall into crawlspace and into sump in garage 40' away.
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/a...psn7re9zvg.jpg
I started by cutting into wall down the grove it's some sort of wood panel painted. Then removed and drilled 2 holes thru 2x4 in wall into crawlspace.
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/a...psdyorqpkb.jpg
Next I built a box and drilled a couple more holes for plumbing also running power so I have a plug for light.
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/a...pstokaomxn.jpg
Pic of plumbing and electrical done next I have to run pipe thru crawlspace
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/a...psgpsqczv4.jpg
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/a...psx4v9j4sa.jpg
So I got the tank on the stand next I plumbed the bottom up.
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/a...psihspoawt.jpg
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/a...psb1hhuyrv.jpg
You can see where I cut the access panel in this Pic tomorrow I will sand edges and re paint then put a few small brad nails to close.
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/a...psl8sgduox.jpg
This is about all I'm doing today still will paint black and will be getting new light.
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/a...psrbdyqc9v.jpg
Close up of the rfa's enjoying the new much cleaner water coming from sump off my sps system. I also plan on doing some rock work in future to hide pipe gotta get some Fiji Crete.

Yah that's freaking awesome. I've always wanted to do a sweet nano that was ninja style plumbed in to a larger, more stable system.

Have you been raiding my day dreams?

Ryanerickson 12-25-2014 05:36 AM

Thanks guys glad you like the tank hoping on Boxing Day I will get a bit more done and update.

i love the floating stand idea i once considered trying it but chickened out. those rock nems look great.

even if your rear 2x4 is screwed into studs i'd still be fearful about all the downward force the tank will put on those screws. even a small tank weighs a lot and with the cantilever a bump into it or someone resting a rand on it could have bad results. also, the manner which you angled those others screws in split the wood and all of the forward weight of the tank would be applying a lot of pressure on those connections. i'm in no way trying to be negative but i was surprised nobody else thought this looked a bit dangerous.

do you have a cover over the upwards pointing outlet? also seems a bit sketchy considering how easy it is for splashes to occur.

again i really like the idea maybe i'm worried for nothing =)

Ryanerickson 01-06-2015 09:33 PM

I stood on this stand it not going anywhere I have zero worries about that. The plug yeah your right could at least put cover on not that worried because it's tied into my main system only thing I plug in is the light. I don't put my hands in the tank I feed with long tweezers water changes are done at the sump in garage.by the way something I did not picture or mention I put at 2x4 from stud to stud behind wall that my frame screws into its not supported just on studs that would scare me.

lastlight 01-06-2015 10:25 PM

awesome glad to hear. the trusty 'stand on your stand' test certainly counts for something

Slyguy00 01-07-2015 01:55 AM

It looks even better in person.

Galizio 01-07-2015 02:23 AM

What kind of clowns do you have here? Black Ice?
I have a pair of black ice right now and they are only black and white with orange faces. I'm hoping more orange grows on them as they get older.

Ryanerickson 04-05-2016 12:57 AM

Pretty sure there black ice I got them from Timbits a year or 2 ago I picked the ones with the most white in them he had but they have always had the orange in them there color has never really changed.

Thanks guys this morning I spotted a few fresh babies I found 4-5 but I'm sure there is more they are very small and hard to see the last batch I would guess was twice the size but came from different mother. I got one close up shot you can black pieces of sand next to it for comparison yes very small.
