Sun Aquatics bulbs

i am going to set up 2 metal halide lamps for my 60gal. i was looking at the selection at J&L and was wondering why the Sun Aquatics brand were so much cheaper than the rest of ttheir selection. are these lower qulity bulbs?

thanks, Manuel

I tried ordering some from J&L, but they sent me an email telling me that they had temporarily discontinued the bulbs until quality issues are fixed. After I gave them a call, I was informed that they were getting numerous complaints about the color quality of the bulbs. Quite a few people complain about a green or yellow tint to the bulbs. I ended up buying Ushios. You get what you pay for I guess.

they do have a tint to them but if you are strapped for cash from buying your ballasts and reflectors and you have never had MH be for they will be good. then at a later date you can upgrade the bulbs if you see fit. I am burning the SA 10K 250 watt bulbs right now and ya there is a slight green tint but it disappears with actinic VHO's on. I would actually buy these bulbs again if I could get them for the same price I paid for them.

On that note I think I have two 14K SA's here still that I might be willing to part with. they are nice if you like the radium blue look.

Steve, I would certainly send a cease and desist letter to Venkiw. And have a lawyer send him a bill for the use to date.

Crappy. Hm, maybe you were posting pictures of his tank as your own???

Just kidding. Posting other people's pictures without permission to sell your products is certainly very inappropriate.

Nice comparison pics of the SA bulbs by the way. Very useful if I was a potential buyer of SA bulbs.

I notice venki is logged into the board. Can we expect any comments on this? I notice the pics are still on the Ebay site. Venki??

Hello Everyone,

I am sure i exchanged a few Pms with steve when he began testing on our bulbs a while ago about the use of the pictures, but it has since been deleted.

I didn't expect it to create problems at this point of the game. It has been while and my memories tend to fade. So to avoid any further controversies we'll be removing the pictures from the listings.

Listings that do have bids on them cannot be modified, we'll be removing the from all auctions as they expire.

Regret any inconvenience.

Thanks

Venki

the bad part about this was that if you would have checked with me and given me credit for the pictures and visual tests I probably wouldn't have minded.

to explain my view a little more is I had to pay approximately 200.00 to be able to do these tests as a benefit to people on Canreef in researching a new product. now I am not rich, but I do enjoy testing things. Now I see the business using my data (pictures) to make money. usually a business pays for test results on a product or at least sends what they want to be tested to the tester for free as you did with JBNY when they want to use the outcome for there advertising. I did notice that you gave JBNY credit and a link off your page as well. sorry I just feel like I was taken advantage of.

Steve
