Ideal tank size

What is your ideal size for a tank

Well shucks poll disappeared

sphelps 08-27-2014 07:30 PM

Ideal tank size = Size of ideal spot in house

Coralgurl 08-27-2014 07:32 PM

My next tank would be a small cube. Ideal depends on what you want to keep.

mikellini 08-27-2014 08:33 PM

I'd like to do a 6'x6'x2' either in the centre of a room (visible from all sides) or as a room divider/in place of a wall... when I win the lotto of course

toytech 08-27-2014 10:29 PM

4'x2'x18" high , 2foot depth is great and shorter than 2 foot high is easier to work on and 4 foot is as long as I can fit , if I had space for a 16 foot long tank id have one.

FishyFishy! 08-27-2014 10:48 PM

If I wanted more corals than fish...smaller more cube-like dimensions. If I wanted lots of nice fish, tangs included, I would do a larger tank, 6+ feet in length.

My ideal or dream tank would be in the center of a room with bar seating all around it. 6'X4'X2' ... some day!

But like steve said....realistically its more based on where you are putting it, and how much space is available.

Yeah 6x4 is actually probably better, a bit easier to work in. In that case maybe I'd do 8x4

Yeah thats what my dreams are made of! Lol

Aquattro 08-28-2014 12:08 AM

The ideal tank is not too big, not too small. In fact, it's the one that's just right.
Happy to help :)

Dearth 08-28-2014 12:41 AM

Nieces .... Lost count of how many Disney movies I've watched over and over and over

Dearth 08-28-2014 01:29 AM

Now that I have room in my basement I would love to go with a 4' long by 3' wide and 18" deep

steve fedyk 08-28-2014 01:53 AM

8X3X3 for the fish with a nice live coral for the back drop, with a room in behind the tank.

tytown 10-20-2014 04:59 AM

The ideal tank to me is the largest tank you can fit in the chosen location.....Plus 50 gallons.

spit.fire 10-20-2014 05:53 AM

between 5-10 gallons

corpusse 10-20-2014 12:56 PM

If you like fish I think the ideal size is 180. Yes this happens to be what I have now, and if I had my way it would be bigger but :

I can keep most tangs (2-3) but I have my species pick besides the really huge ones. I don't have to be overly careful about other small fish. It's still a standard size tank so it wasn't too expensive to buy. I don't need a massive massive protein skimmer ect.

If you don't care much for fish and more for coral. I'd say a cube tank is ideal. As much as I love cube tanks unless I get a 6x6 I wouldn't get one due to the fact I love my achilles tang.

100% agreed, in my area where the tank is set up it would be 5L'X2.5W'X20H" that would fill out that wall,

Skimmerking 10-20-2014 06:52 PM

16x2x2

mseepman 10-20-2014 09:15 PM

I thought it was 84 x 32 x 26 but now that i've filled that up...96 x 36 x 28 seems more appropriate. Peninsula of course.

lastlight 10-20-2014 09:23 PM

my wife already told me it's the one i have currently. thankfully i agree with her!

whatcaneyedo 10-21-2014 12:37 AM

A standard 120gal is a very versatile size. Easy to light, provide adequate flow, wide and long enough for creative aquascaping, not too heavy or long for moving, and plenty of options for stocking. In the first two years of being in this hobby I went through a 20gal, 48gal, 33gal, and 50gal before moving up to the 120gal which I have now had for 8 years. That being said... a 250gal 5'x3'x2' would be nice.

Yeah I'm quite happy with my 93. Really great dimensions, interesting aquascape, good variety in stocking and small enough that it's easy to maintain with small water changes and dosing.

That being said, now I think my dream is 120x30x30. Maybe a little shorter

JDigital 10-22-2014 11:17 PM

72"x36"x20"

LMAO! Brad is always so helpful, what he says makes a lot of sense though! :silly:

Myka 10-24-2014 02:57 PM

I would love to have a fish only peninsula around 120x36x30", but I couldn't fit that in my house. I have a 50-gallon reef right now 36x18x18", and that is the ideal size for this house. :)

Haha! Nice one Mark.

Trigger Man 10-24-2014 07:45 PM

I'm putting in a 60.5x27.5x27.5 that I think I will like, but ideally I think I would like (next upgrade) 96x34x22.
The height is more due to laziness and the fact that it would still allow me to get to the bottom corners to scrub down the coralline (Bare bottom)

riceboy 10-25-2014 12:03 AM

Damn 27.5 high. I have a 22" high tank and wish I went with a 20 or 18" cause my armpits get wet in the 22" lol

Parker 11-03-2014 07:40 PM

I've had an ideal tank for the last two years - an empty one :D

jazzywashbuckler 06-07-2015 04:44 AM

Ideal tank size

Mine is roughly 31" by 31" by 31" high this is my next tank wife is not allowing me space on kitchen island but this is the ONE BABY! Then my sump area will be huge topping up and draining tank will be a switch of the button. It's right in front of my sink lol.
The lady of the house is winning now but very soon I will win the war
