guaging interest in hosting a fragswap for calgary
 

we have been toying around lately with the idea of having a fragfest type event , we are undecided if the end of august is a good date and if anyone is interested in bringing frags, supplies, or hardware .

we would set up tables and prop tanks as well host a bbq.

so it comes down to time , we want to do an outside event so end of august is ideal but is this a good time and enough time for anyone?

anyone can bring what they like and sell what they like , if timing isnt good we can also plan an indoor event for a later date:)

as a sponsor we would offer some prizes, food and discounts to everyone who attends:)

Seriously though guys it's about time we set up a local frag fest.

we have sponsorship , sales and a place all we need is attendance.


So what would you guys like to see and do and when do you all think a good time frame is :)

If we can come together as a group I'm.sure I can set it all up , kien would you like to help organize this?

We would also need some volunteers for both clean/set up and to help out with the festival :)

I will also start asking other sponsors to attend would be nice to see us all come together as a group for a full day:)

I think it's a great idea and yes we are well overdue for one. I can help organize. As always with these sorts of things it's going to be virtually impossible to find a date that will work for everyone (especially in the summer). You kinda have to just pick a date and then make everyone else schedule around that :lol: But let's pick a date that people are generally happy with maybe.

With advance notice of the date :) I would be happy to volunteer. Set up or whatever.

I am in too. Dont have a job yet so I can gift some invaluable volunteering time too :smile:

Im in but just gonna be buying stuff.

I would show up and could have a couple lps frags for trades and probably some zoos.

if we were to host it for sunday august 31 does anyone see any big issues with this date? is this enough time?



if its doable ill start planning and get an official post going:)

also ill be bringing a bunch of aiptasia eating nudibranchs , literally too many to count for whoever needs them, these will be free to who ever needs them on a first come first serve basis with the agreement that they pass theirs on for free once finished with them:)


ill also be bringing some zoa frags at $5 as well some nicer ones :)

ok ill let it sit for today and if all are in agreement that the date is fine then tomorrow i will announce an official invitation as well what we need for help, organizing etc.

Great idea Denny. We've been doing them here for a few years and turnout always been great. other lfs also get involved with frags and door prizes.

First Monday in September is Labour Day ... that is the one weekend this summer where I am out of town :)

I'll be out of town too. Sunday after the long weekend would be great as a lot of the folks are back from vacation.

thats what i am thinking that we may do it for the following weekend, of course guys this is all for you so it comes down to whats the best time as whole for everyone:)

so we all had a talk and we got to calling a bunch of other fishstores and online businesses, wholesalers etc. that we know and i think we are going to plan the greatest fragfest of all time as there seems to be alot of interest from sponsors in quite a few provinces.

so we need time, as much as we would like to throw a festival together for the end of the month-ish , right now we are looking at flying in other sponsors from different provinces and their livestock, setting up tables for stores and people , making flyers and doing promos and giveaways.

we want all the big names to come together for a day of reef glory lol

so we are thinking either late sept or first weekend in october , the day will be a sunday as overall a sunday seems to work best for everyone.

we will rent tables, tents and a place for kids to hang out and play.

big giveaways, discounts from all vendors , local sales , bbq....the works really. maybe even some fireworks hehehe


we want this to be big.....hundred upon hundreds of people big and would like to see people from outside of calgary make the day trip down , and i think in order to drive say from edmonton to calgary for a festival there needs to be time to plan.


dave is going to plan for the next few days with some vendors and local(breeders/fraggers etc) and then hes going to make a official post explaining what we will all have planned.

people in calgary know what calgary has but would love to see what other vendors from different provinces are bringing as well some of the bigger names in the hobby that we all only read about but love to see their pics ;) other vendors want exposure its summer and everyone is slow , what better way to get your name around and meet people then to host a reef festival in one of the larger cities canada has to offer for reefing:)

at first we just wanted to host an event , have a bbq and a few drinks....now we want rock concert style attendance lol


this is going to be big and no expense spared!!

i know who im getting to light the fireworks now dont i lol
