Stand question

So, after another episode of stoopid, I made my stand frame too big to fit in the house once it's finished. So I'm thinking of finishing the top separately and attaching it using brackets from the inside once it all comes in the house.

Anyone see any problem with that? Bottom of stand is full sheet of plywood, and sides all plywood. Not the exact design I had in mind, but I could go with a countertop type design. I guess.

I'm dumb.

Any big windows you can pop out to bring it in?

Christy caught me measuring the front window. I got THAT look. It meant no. :)

LOL, this was going to be my thought too! My 7' x 2' x 2' (plus 8" full overflow) is 2" clearance for the window that it was designed as large as possible to come in through :)

I would remove the window, but it's an older house and I'm not sure I could put it back together in a way that she wouldn't notice.

As a backup plan, she's ok with me finishing the stand in the house, but I'd have to tarp myself in to do the router work.

Sorry Brad but LOL  I have a question... Is the tank going to fit thru the door?

monocus 06-05-2014 06:59 AM

stand

too big if you take the door off?if you're putting foam under your tank then you can just screw the top down(countersink).or if you're painting the top you can fill the holes with dynapatch and paint over them after sanding

Problem is the design requires the top to be routered once attached. If I do the top separately, it would be finished before attaching, so I would need to attach from underneath with brackets (like a counter top).

Plan B is just drape the whole project and myself in a plastic sanding booth for the router work :) I might even post a pic of that.

Don't think brackets are required. Once the water is in the tank it ain't moving

Aquattro 06-05-2014 02:29 PM

I've decided to do it properly (so unlike me) and disassemble and shorten the stand. I want to keep the original design and it has to leave the house one day, preferably in one piece :)

I think she might have stopped. Laughing turned to shaking head, uttering words that sound like "idiot"...

christyf5 06-05-2014 03:50 PM

Glad I could bring such amusement to everyone :)

I've dismantled the stand, cut it down 2 inches and rebuilt. Onward and upward :)
