Millepora, easy or hard?
I really really love millis especially their stringy polyps but I got one before and it just died. I wanna try again but I'm scared. Are they harder to keep than other sps like birdnest and montis? I have Ora green birdnest that is growing like crazy, rainbow monti, sunset monti, pocci, digi, bunch of other birdnests all doing well. Not sure why I can't keep millepora are there any special requirements thanks

I'd say pretty easy, no tougher than any other acropora.

I would say Milles aren't as easy as Birdnests or Montis, but taking SPS as a whole, Milles aren't even close to be a challenging genus. It's a good next step considering the SPS you listed success with. It could be that you simply picked a poor specimen for your first try with Mille.

I agree with these guys. Im not sure what millepora you tried but I would recommend trying a frag from one that is already flourishing in captivity for a long time.

They are not that hard to keep but given that corals love to hug u :). Look up sting remedy as millepora are fire corals

The coral the OP is talking about is Millepora Acropora
|
Your link is millepora dichotoma , which is completely different

Hmmm the frag I got was pretty healthy I'm pretty sure polyps were out, I actually tried twice once long time ago and one more recently both times they sort of just started losing flesh, not bleach or anything but the flesh just started disappearing until the whole thing was dead. :( got other sps frags the same time too and those ones are still flourishing.
Hmm maybe ill try again hopefully it was just bad luck sounds like its not a pretty tough coral to keep. Thanks all |
Were the frags well encrusted? I do find that Mille frags are a bit prone to RTN or STN when moved to a different tank if they aren't well encrusted.

one of my favorite corals, I found them very easy to keep, a lot easier than other types of acro. mind you I never had any corls RTN or what ever so maybe I was just lucky.

Easy coral with stable water, but usually the first to go RTN when something is off. Also the most likely to random RTN events. But I stress, it's fairly simple to keep them happy. Grows fast, colors easy and eats like a champ.

Albert. What does it eat? I'd love to feed it some :)
But agreed with everything Albert said. However some millies grow slightly slower then others, but shouldn't be hard to keep if your cal and alk levels are somewhat in range. Sent from my SGH-I317M using Tapatalk |

here was my big one when I moved, it was a tri color but it was realy upset from being moved and went brown, took a good 3 weeks to color up again. http://www.members.shaw.ca/stircrazy/move/milli.jpg this is a bad picture of it when it was a lot smaller in the tank. hard to see the different colors but it was blue, purple and green. don't mind the hair algae I was battling at the time..... http://www.members.shaw.ca/stircrazy...green_mili.jpg Steve |
