ID Please
We haven't had an ID this thread in a few hours so I'm hoping I can get some ideas on this sucker. It's a pretty elusive sucker, I've only seen it three times and this was the first time I could get a decent shot of it. I'm thinking a nudibranch or possibly a huge flatworm?

Could be a nudibranch or could be a stomatella snail. Hard to tell with the pic
|
its a chiton , not the typical one but def common
nocturnal and usually diving in and out liverock holes completely harmless |

Your picture is terrible, but to me that doesn't look at all like a Chiton. Chitons are hard and don't change shape as they move. Your pic looks like a nudibranch to me which are soft and pliable. Do a Google image search and see what you think for yourself.

http://www.canreef.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=74367 i originally thought nudi as well when i first seen one after some readings turns out its a species of chiton, very nocturnal and only seen when cruising from tunnel to tunnel in the liverock. |

http://www.wetwebmedia.com/MolluscPI...0chit%20id.png Note that the spots only take up about 1/5 the length of the Chiton. The photo that the OP posted looks as though the spots cover about 1/2 the length. Maybe the photo is misleading, maybe you are right. Indeed, it looks close to the Cryptoplax sp, but it looks more to me like a similar looking nudibranch. Hopefully the OP replies regarding the texture and size of the creature. |
I always thought chitons had a segmented armoured shell?
