problems with millaporas

So the last month i been noticing most of my millaporas aren't doing so well, the water is great, calcium 400, alk 9.4, mag 1400, and phosphates .04.

i have no idea whats going on with with…do any of you recommend anything??? i dont want to lose them, even though they are all 1"-2" frags

MitchM 01-24-2014 11:59 AM

Can you tell us what you have for lighting and water flow?
Maybe post a picture of your system?
Were the frags already healing on the plugs, or were they freshly cut?

Spyd 01-24-2014 12:22 PM

Lots of light and high flow is essential. Are they browning out, bleaching, STN'ing?

Millis are pretty tolerant compared to most acros.

reefwars 01-24-2014 01:18 PM

Alkalinity swings seemed to do a number On mine

Aquattro 01-24-2014 11:07 PM

Can we assume you have other acropora that are all doing well?

Amadod2 01-25-2014 05:12 AM

i have a 6bulb ho t5 fixture, vertex doser, swc protein skimmer, tunze jabao and korelia powerheads,

MitchM 01-25-2014 11:27 AM

More information please.

Tank size, how many/which powerheads, describe how the corals are not doing well, are there other corals in the tank, are you using carbon, where are the corals located, have there been any incidents that would have affected them...ect

It's hard to recommend a possible solution without knowing details about your setup.

Amadod2 01-25-2014 11:18 PM

Tank size 75g , 3 powerheads jebao wp40, tunze 6065 and a korelia1150, the other corals are doing well i will post some pics. im not using carbon, only rowaphose, and the corals are located mid tank, i started my tank in august and my first water change was done in december, but the millaporas were ok, i also was using tap water for top offs, now im doing water changes every month 15% and using RODI water for everything

MitchM 01-26-2014 12:27 AM

Your lighting is good, your flow is possibly sufficient, depends on how you have it arranged.
More water flow would be good. Flow is more important than lighting for corals.

I would be concerned that maybe you have some alleopathy (chemical warfare) going on, and with very few water changes plus no carbon, any new corals will have a hard time adapting.
Rowaphos can be hard on sps if you're using too much. How much are you using, and have you always used it?
The pictures might help a bit more.

Amadod2 01-26-2014 02:24 AM

i been using it for three months or so, i never used carbon, is it better??

sumpfinfishe 01-26-2014 06:22 AM

I would also lean to the above replys, i use to keep millis and there a pretty hardy coral, after fragging i would simply stick them into holes in lr and they would grow like weeds. They do like lots of flow as they need lots of calcium, but more importantly to keep there tiny polyps clean of debris such as fine sand or mucus from nearby corals. I found a big difference in lps and sps overall health if my Ca was at 420 or higher, at 400 i found growth rates to be much slower-jmo

Activated carbon and Rowaphos (or any granular ferric oxide product) have different purposes.
Activated carbon will remove organic pollutants and Rowaphos will reduce your phosphate level.

Amadod2 01-26-2014 04:00 PM

what is a good carbon to use and how is it used?

Rox carbon in a reactor of bag works good

Amadod2 01-26-2014 05:14 PM

i have a phosban 150 reactor,should i place the carbon in that?

spit.fire 01-26-2014 05:19 PM

That works fine, you'll need the sponges

Amadod2 01-26-2014 09:24 PM

just having some issues posting pics right now

Amadod2 01-27-2014 03:15 PM

so the first pic is a red planet, the second pic on the left is a sunset milli, the third pic is a hot pink milli, and the last pic is a blue milli….. as you all can see they aren't doing so well. i did buy carbon and place it in a bag in the sump.

Amadod2 01-28-2014 12:16 AM

correction red planet is third pic
