Calcium reactor
Does any one still use a calcium reactor ?
Any pros cons to using one / not using one ? |
I am using it.
pros?? everthing. cons?? higher initial cost. it's alot easier to set up a calcium reactor with a ph controller. It's not only replenish your big 3, but it also provides trace mineral as well. |
I went from ghl 3 pump doser to a calcium reactor I love it less work then dosing for me.
|
I was looking through the life reef site and they have a nano cal reactor
I'm trying to automate my system as much as possible as I'm away from home a lot |
Without a calcium reactor, I'd likely shut my tank down.

Yup. I have a reactor being built also. Used one many moons ago and was happy with it so going back to one.

+ 1 to all of the above. It took a while to dial it in but worth it.

Calcium reactor
I'm running a schuran pico calcium reactor that's controlled by my apex and I love it, I was dosing manually every 2 days and a haven't had to dose since I put it on
All I have left to do is get some zeomag for it now |
This maybe a stupid question but can a calcium reactor be used on smaller tanks . I have a 65 g

I am actually going away from calcium reactor to balling salts. I might regret it going to keep the reactor and set up in case but want to try something different. My biggest thing is with magnesium never know how much mag to put in the reactor. We will see I love the simplicity of the reactor, hate the hassle of dealing with geting co2 not super hand with the store hours and the hours I work.

Mine is for a 50g sps/clam tank and I even upgraded a size. Several companies, including Lifereef mentioned above, make nano reactors also.
I never found co2 a problem before. The place Im going here is a lease on a 20# and when empty just take it back and get another. Several of our sponsors sell reactors also, plus gauges, etc |

Calcium reactors are way too old school.
Hassle free once set, top up the media every so often and clean the probe. I'll stick with it, dosers are too technical for me. |
