Focus on Prodibio The breakdown.
So here is it, the long awaited guide to all things ProdiBio, what makes Prodibio so unique and easy to use, in fact without doubt the easiest and most effective low nutrient system.
So first lets talk about the simplicity of the system Prodibio due to the elements used and way it is made allows for the user to only dose every two weeks and without the need for any form of equipment or reactors. Each element comes in a nitrogen sealed glass vial, which also gives the product a very long shelf life, no risk of bacteria dying off. It is 100% impossible to over dose other than create some over skimming and uses only natural extracts. Prodibio time and time again has proven to be one of the most effective systems on the market that also can be mixed with other concepts. The system has 3 main elements. BioDigest BioPtim & Reefbooster BioDigest Biodigest is your bacterial source much like any other ULNS you have to have a plentiful supply of bacterial strains to eat up those bad nutrients. Where prodibio differs is that they use a chain of different strains, one strain starting off where the other left so you get a dosing window of two weeks. No other system allows you to dose that far apart. BioPtim This is your carbon source as found in many other ULN systems. The difference is again you only dose every two weeks. BioPtim contains a multitude of essentials additives for feeding the bacterial colony in your system and in doing so lowering your nitrates and PO4 levels. ReefBooster. This is your coral and critter food source containing a long line of additives including a very potent mix of omega 3 fatty acids and amino acids. The Big question - Dosing There are two concepts here which has led to confusion on the past and we hope this will eliminate that from now on Can I combine with other systems? As mentioned above yes you can but for ease of dosing and the non requirement of equipment we strongly suggest the use of Both Biodigest and BioPtim in place of any other similar product such as bio medias and daily dosing systems. From there you can choose to use the one shot ReefBooster or mix with other coral enhancing additives from the likes of Tropic Marin or ZeoVit. Many ZeoVit users actually use Prodibio bacteria and carbon source instead due to the low maintenance required. Maintenance dosing If you already have a low nutrient system or low nutrients and everything is in check then your dosing is as follows Biodigest = 1 vial UP TO but not exceeding 250 gallons, you can not over dose Biodigest so if you have a 50 gallon tank you still dose 1 vial every two weeks, however if you have a 300 gallon tank you would dose 2 vials. BioPtim = 1 vial every two weeks for every 50 gallon of water irrelevant of anything else this is a fixed ratio. 1 vial to 50 gallons, so if you have 200 gallons you would dose 4 vials. Simple maths. Reefbooster = This must only be added when you have a mature ULN system and can handle the addition of amino acids, the ratio is 1 vial per 50 gallon, just as with BioPtim, however I personally suggest starting off with 1 vial and building up, you will know when you have peaked as the skimmer you turned off to dose and left off for 24 hours will go nuts when switching back on if you dosed too much. When dosing is not as above. THE only time dosing will differ than above is if you are starting off at a high level of nutrients and need to get them down, then the dosing of ONLY Biodigest changes. High nutrients = 1 vial of Biodigest for every 50 gallons, you do not change the bioPtim ratio. This dosing is maintained until your nutrients are within range of ULN systems. at that point you change the dosing back to 1 vial per 250 gallon. BioClean product As the name suggest this product is a one box supply of all the elements you need to lower your nutrients, it contains both BioDigest and BioPtim in equal ration. Why equal? Because you are lowering nutrients so the above example of 1 vial of BioDigest per 50 gallons applies. Once your nutrients are down as mentioned above you then lower your BioDigest to 250/1 StartUP This is by far the highest seller of the range, ProdiBio Start up is ideal for starting new tanks up and allowing for the hardiest fish to be introduced within 12 hours of starting the system. StartUp uses a plant extract ammonia lock no chemicals used. its natural formula locks and holds ammonia until it can be exported, the addition of Biodigest at a high dosing ratio then swiftly colonizes your filtration system. The system time and time again has proven to be a life saver for aquarium stores and for those experiencing ammonia spikes for various reasons. So thats Prodibio broken down into its elements, as you can see plain and simple the system is designed for little maintenance, easy understanding of dosing and by far one of the leading ULN systems on the market. if you have any questions please post here, and I urge everyone even if using other forms of ULN systems to just try it so you see how easy and effective this brillaint system really is. |
Thank you!!!

So my question for you Micheal is......
Since I'm about to start up the new 300 gal I purchased some start up. My plan is to do a large WC on my existing systems and used the removed water in the new system plus taking all the rock out of the existing sump. My question finally is how much start up should I use and do I have to dose more then once and should I wait for a cycle before adding residents, 2 questions I guess lol. |
Dose to the value that start UP states on the box you dont know what level of die off you may have in the move, as you cant over dose the system can only benefit.
I would dose twice 48 hours apart then move to the high nutrient dosing schedule and keep a watch on your levels, once down to where you want them go to maintenance dosing. |
Thanks for posting that.
|
Thanks Micheal.

Do you have to do anything else when using the Reef Kit? Turn off skimmer for X time, lights down, etc. ?
Charles |
Only when dosing reefbooster turn skimmer off overnight while dosing.
|
Is the kit not just 30 vials of all of it mixed? So I turn the skimmer off overnight once every 15 days when doing a single vial from the BioKit Reef?
Charles |
No you get 5 vials of each element in the kit its a starter set.
You dont start dosing reefbooster until 6 weeks into the course. and you can dose the RB on the odd weeks if you wish or as you say turn skimmer off for 12 hours and dose all together. |
Im switching to the Bioclean for my 50g from the separate vials. I assume with similar results. Is that correct?
Thanks |
Yes dose the same way.
|
The package information is very confusing, when it says 30 vials I thought that was ~60 weeks worth but you are saying it is really 12 weeks or three months worth.
Charles |
I dont think any company supplies over a years worth of ULNS for $60?
The amount of weeks the starter kit will last you depends on your size of tank |
Did I say that I expected them to?
I said the packaging was confusing, it says "30 vials" and "one vial every 2 weeks" when you say it is really "6 of each vial" and "1 of each vial every two weeks" Charles |
sorry guess I am getting lost in where the confusion is here.
Yes the packaging is right, 1 vial every 2 weeks, so if you have 6 different vials that would be 1 of each every 2 weeks. |

Ok. Thanks |
I am currently running an ULNS and was wondering if any of these products could help with the bacteria growth / production. I have read through them and beleive BioDigest does this? but I want to be sure
|
Yes Biodigest is the bacterial supplement, the beauty of the system over oothers is that you only dose once every 2 weeks, not daily like others.
BioPtim is your carbon source. |

What do you do now to maintain ulns and define ulns? |
This would be only relative assuming your not using prodibio at all at the moment.
|
Ok I phrased it all wrong. I am sedtup for an ULNS as I have biopellets w/ output into one of my skimmers and dose a small amount of vinegar every aswell through a doser. I still have .1 Phos and around 5-10 Nitrates. I find when my notrates get that high corals don't pop as much as they normally do. I would like to boost my carbon sources output if that is possible. BioDigest??
|
FOrgot ot say that biopellets have been runnnig for 6+ months and vinegar for around 1.5months
|
Not a fan of bio pellets, but that being said ;)
The carbon source of Prodibio is BioPtim. |

How many mls are you adding daily and how much pellets are in the reactor? What size skimmer do yo use and what size system. If it we me I would ditch the pellets and either go the full prodibio route or supplement your existing bcteria source with another carbon source. Unfortunately with any system if you over feed , done have adequate size equipment or misuse the products then they will not work properly. With no3 at 5ppm I would lower my po4 with gfo while slowly adding more vinegar , the risk is the pellets as we don't know what they re doing at this time, so because of the uncertainty of what the pellets are doing at the moment I would proceed slowly or remove them , in the grand scheme of things it's not efficient to run all these methods nor is it cost wise and can run into serious risks that are hard to recover form. |

Anyways, I don't know why you are using two different source of carbons (bio-pellet + vinegar). Eventually, someone will start feeding cyano if I am not wrong. Use a carbon source (biopellet/vinegar/bioptim) and a bacteria source (mb7/biodigest). And I prefer to follow one program instead of mixing different ones. If you want to use prodibio, go full prodibio; if you want to use biopellets, cut off the vinegar and use mb7. |
Due to a surge in up take of Prodibio I thought important to re post this

use two you can not over dose but if lightly stocked see how you go with one
|
are there instructions for the biokit reef? cant seem to find out when to add the coral vits/iodi+/ stronti+
|
everything gets added at the same time once every 2 weeks
|
o ok. thought had to wait until the system stabilized first before adding everything. thanks
