Source for RO membranes?

So what is the best source for RO membranes? AquaFX has the 100gpd for $49 US, but are there other sources?

UnderWorldAquatics 07-13-2004 01:56 AM

Aquattro 07-13-2004 03:10 AM

Kyle, I need a 100gpd TFC membrane to fit a standard hobbyist housing. Wasn't aware of different styles, so I guess just "regular"

source for RO membranes

Brad, did you check out Prostar Mechanical ?
They have a big showroom with various R.O. systems, fittings, valves etc.
They are located at 320 Mary st. off Esquimalt rd.

Gary, I didn't, but I find them very expensive on other things I get there. I may have actually asked them a long time ago, but I can't recall. Steve gets a discount there, but he's run away from home for a while and can't help me out.

source for R.O. membranes

Yes, expensive they are !
My Aquasafe is RO/DI is a third of the cost to a comparable (OEM) unit
they carry. ( $120 vs. $375 )
All I need now is a large water storage container on wheels and then just wait patiently for a complete reef tank when one comes up for sale here in Victoria.

Oops, my mistake Brad. I thought it was AquaFX I deal with, but it is
http://www.aquaticreefsystems.com/Aq...ccessories.htm

I ordered the membrane with a bunch of cartridges, so I don't really recall what it came out to.

.

Thanks Em. Both places are the same price, so it shouldn't matter.

UnderWorldAquatics 07-14-2004 12:07 AM

I should have prices for you tomorrow, I also asked my supplier for a group order price

UnderWorldAquatics 07-15-2004 12:21 AM

From the one supplier I deal with they are looking into the 100gpd membranes but for now I could give you pricing on 50 and 75 gpd membranes.... they are Duro brand
TFC 50gpd membrane= $70.00+tax+shipping from Kelowna
TFC 75gpd membrane= $75.00+tax+shipping from Kelowna

Let me know if that is a fair price
Anyone who is interested let me know...

Aquattro 07-15-2004 01:08 AM

Thanks Kyle. Let me know the 100 price when you get it. How do these compare to te DOW brand? Any specs?

UnderWorldAquatics 07-15-2004 01:12 AM

Ill try to get some specs.... almost all TFC membranes are made by the same manufacture Im pretty sure they are the same unit?

Skimmerking 07-15-2004 03:09 AM

I was talking to GOOLS on this board and tells me that the DOW membrane is the same one that he uses in his RO/Di unit in stead of specu-pure or whatever name that it is it was 65 cdn to buy it at home depot i think compared to 119 for the same one.

there are actualy 4 seperat manufactures that I know of now and they all use different construction techneques and materials for TFC. DOW filmtech is the best and is patented so the others cannot make them the same. some of the differences you will notice if you can get ahold of specs is the rejection rate for different minnerals, the ability to withstand chlorine breakdown, and the amount of time they will last. depending on the construction of the insides they will plug up faster ect. I have a couple cheepies at home. if I haven't throwen them in the garbage I will cut them up and compare the insides to a DOW so you can see the differences.

Brad you can get a 75 gpd DOW in town for about 75 or 80. I can probably get it even cheeper than that as I think my cost on a 100 DOW is about 80.00

Steve.
