Wave maker
Hey reefers
My next purchase for my 180 mixed reef is going to be a wave maker. Presently I have 4 fans (two hydors and two Aqueon) running right now. from my research i have noticed that having a wave controller is hard on these models and worry that turning them off and on would create issues. (my one hydor goes backwards 3x to 1) What would be the best wave action and would it be better to replace the fans? |I was looking at a wavebox but a little on the pricey side and didn't like the big black box in the tank. please give me some idea's |

wave box
i got my wavebox from fish street-$180 .i placed it on my overflow and surrounded it with rock to hide it

yea just don't like the box - I really can't hide it.
The jebao wp-40 wave maker looks really good. Anyone using this? also is it big enough for a 180? |

wave maker
i'm using a wp 40 on my 240-good water movement but nothing compared to a wave box(changing my wave box pump tomorrow).with the box it pushes out a couple of cups of water at each pulse and then refills.the wp is just taking the surrounding water with no real displacement.i'm not saying the wps are not any good-i'm very happy with them(i also have a wp25 in my frag tank)

Love my Jebao WP60 and it takes care of almost all the flow for my 165g (almost same dimensions as 180g). Good "wave" action at the surface and corals waft in the current.

I just started running the Jebao WP25 for my 90gal....its amazing and you cant beat the price...paid $80 online and free shipping.

Hello
Any videos? Titus |
You may or may not care but I will post this for information to consider. The Jebao WP 25 and 40 are stolen designs from Tunze and produced in China where they can get away with the copywright infraction. Like I said you may or may not care about the ethics but don't expect the same build quality or support from Jebao and if saving a little short term money is not a concern check out the real thing from Tunze.

I've gone through 8 different Vortechs before I finally found 5 that did'nt have reliability/noise problems. At $500 a pop you'd expect a little more out of them. They're a really cool powerhead and i'm pretty happy with them. But, as these start to break down I will most likely be replacing them with the WP40s.
Here's a long demonstration on them. I could'nt watch it all but you might be able to sit through it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YXfEwdNG_wg |
Vortech's are definitely noisy. I had two on opposite ends of my 90 gallon tank and replaced them with one WP40. The single WP40 gave me a better wave and is much quieter.

I'm actually using a wp25 on my 90 g reef tank and have to run it on the lowest wave w1 and on the lowest speed, it really moves water and creates a nice wave motion on the corals as well. I just ordered another one for my 60 g build.
Great bang for the buck as long as they last, I guess us first time users are the guinea pigs. LOL!! |
