live rock hitchhikers
I am curious as to what type of hitchhikers you found on your new live rock when brought home.
Bad or good lets hear it and photos if any... |
Not my rock but last week a lfs ended up with a mantis shrimp. Only finding out as his hand went into tank
|
Three rock crabs came in on my live rock. One of them still lives in my sump.

Sitting around the house all day being sick...watching my system as I have 2 crazy crabs (gorilla<) need gone and cannot get them out ...the only thing left is fishing them out as they been there for a long time and they are roughly 2.5" big.
Not my photo but larger and meaner http://www.meades.org/fish/fish_2005/brown_crab_1.jpg |
#1 bad hitchhiker aptasia as I hear it from almost everyone ...I am one of the luckiest one with none in my entire setup

No hitchhikers but pest anemones, bubble alage & red carpet quickly took over my last batch of fiji dead rock.
So I just received one box of new stuff for my new tank. Seriously thinking of getting more and throwing all my other out. Of course problem is cycling and a couple encrusted corals. |

As to your old rock you could dry it then recycle with rock from a fellow reefer trustee in your area for seeding your new rock.PHOTOS is a must ..lol.. |
What do I need to seed my new rock with? All it needs is to become bacterial active to process ammonia and nitrite, anything else is a pain.....no?

All my corals will come from my existing 20g.. Just need to separate any encrusted ones from their rock. Esp this large monti cap piece. Most of my sps are just starting to encrust, so removing them should not be a problem.

My Limited Edition Blue Clove Polyps.
