Manual dosing or pump?
Curious as to how most people dose.
Choose your poll answer, I am very interested in the results :) Charles |
I have 2 tanks and manual dose both of them.
|
150g softie, and never dose, Acctually don't change water that often either. Zoa's Shrooms, Crocea Clam, all doing well, Of and fishes too HEHEHE
|
2 part via perialistic dosers
If I had to manual dose I would be there all day my system uses way more than I can dose at once or twice a day so now its slowly all day and night:) |
I dose by hand for over a year but I picked up a ghl stand alone doser from reefsupplies alittle while ago so I'm going to start using the pumps
|
Calcium Reactor
i bought a 4 channel dosing pump last year and found it to be inconsistent and unreliable |
144 gallon display with 50 gallon sump.
I dose two part with BRS dosing pumps. I'm in the same boat as ReefWars ... I dose too much for manual to be efficient. My pumps run for about 200 minutes a day split into 3 allotments to help keep the levels more stable. |
I'm assuming you aren't talking about ATO but only supplements. In this case I dose manually. None of my parameters swing rapidly enough to make electronic dosing worthwhile.
I have an Apex JR on the way so maybe I'll consider dosing something in the future but for now what I'm doing works fine. |

spent more time maintaining the doser then it took to dose manually. A lot of funds for yet another piece of equipment that did not pay for itself. |

Use a ghl standalone. Whether we use a reactor or doser testing is always required. All I do after my weekly tests is press the up arrow for each channel as needed. I also manually dose after the tests to balance my levels which may be low by 0.5 dkh or 10 ppm calcium. best investment i've made for the tank other than ato.

I have been running dosing pumps for over 5 years (not entirely sure how long... would have to look back) and absolutely love them!
So so so much better than my CARX and kalk reactor. Still have a brand new deltec Kalk reactor at home if someones interested.... |
No option for calcium reactor which I use.
But does a perialistic doser for vinegar dosing count? |
I use a GHL standalone (over 3 yrs now probably closer to 4), would not go back to manual dosing. Keeps my parameters stable.

I've been using a GHL doser for over 4 years now and have had no complaints with it. Mixing was a bit of a chore at first but then I started to buy more convenience in the form of BRS chemicals which mixes a lot easier than grocery store additives.

I use the BRS dosing pumps and I like them. I'm a bit slack with it though as the timers don't fit in my electrical extension box so I have to plug them in every day for however long it needs. That's my excuse for treating myself to an apex controller at Christmas though.

Been using a reactor for 12 years, and levels have stayed constant. I refill it once a year. I'm lazy like that :)
|
just started running a doser for vodka and phoz down am about to get going on the cal/mag/alk since manual dosing is such a pain. Never really looked into a calcium reactor as they scare me and i heard that they are for old people :)
|
I was getting old so I'm switching from CR to a GHL doser on this build. It will be for sale and i'll throw in some free Viagra.

im in that boat too lol do prefer a doser though but a lot more maintenance then a calcium reactor. |
I disagree; I think automated dosing is for old, forgetful people. I can't stick to a consistent manual dosing routine; I need the controller to do the remembering for me....
|
I have about 250 gallons I used ghl 3 pump doser at first but got sick of refilling alk all the time calcium was not much better so I decided to take the old man route lol jetstream 1 by scharan not sure if I'm old enough for it I'm 33 but I will be using it as long as I run sw tanks I love it way less work then dosing.
