Reeftec Pump

I've just installed a Little Giant PE1 with the reeftec kit, and I must say it does push a lot of water.

When I place my hand a few inches in front of my 1000 gph return, my hand vibrates gently, but when I do the same thing in front of the PE1, my hand vibrates quite significantly.

If I were to compare it subjectively, I'd say there's at least twice as much force out through the PE1.

As I've commented in another thread, the shaft is pretty tough to make. Its made from a single piece of plastic rod, drilled on one end, two notches on the other, and at the very end is threaded to accept a wing nut.

Where did you get the PE-1 pump and how much are they in Canada? Is it possible to get a PE-2?

Cheers,
Keith.

Hi Keith,

I got the pump at Groundwater Hydrolics in Vancouver, their number is 604-254-0616.

The pumps aren't cheap, the PE1 is about $90 and the PE2 is $145.

For the extra 16% that Jimmy Chen claims, I didn't think the cost was justified....

Perhaps with the extra horsepower, it could drive a larger propellor.

According to this review:

The author feels he gets about 50% more flow with the PE-2

Cheers,
Keith.

Keith, I just read that today too...

Believe me, unless your tank is over 4' long, the PE1's are enough. The water pressure even at about 9" is a little too strong for my millipora if not on a wavemaker.

Well, my tank is 72"x24"x30" (30 tall)... so, should I go PE-1 or PE-2?

Cheers,
Keith.

Hi Ginku,

It's not cheap...

Two clear kits are $80 Usd, and two black kits are $90 usd. You have to pay via money order because Jimmy currently only excepts electronic transfers from citibank, which you have to be an American resident.

The pumps, depending on where you get them can range from $30 usd online, to $100 cdn. locally.

I bought two, but until I get a wavemaker, it's too much current in my tank.

Regards,

Terrance
