Leaf Scorpion fish
Ive never seen one in any lfs here, are they hard to get and does anyone have any experience with them you can share?
|
Ken at Blueworld (in Edmonton) gets them in sometimes

I don't know if it is still there but I saw one a couple weeks ago in Picies it was a beautiful purple. he was pretty big.

If you're referring to the typical yellow leaf fish like on my avatar then you'll find them fairly often at ocean creation. IME they are like frog fish, dificult to get on frozen, require target feeding, poor tank mate for aggressive eaters, and don't typically live very long in captivity. I currently have a little black leaf fish, not sure on the type exactly but it does much better than the yellow ones.

I like the wasp fish, but I haven't been able to find a lot of info on them for an aquarium. Do you keep other fish in the tank with the leaf/wasp or are they on their own? Looks like inverts may be tasty meals so out of the question for tank mates. I've read about difficulties feeding and not likely to take frozen food.
LiveAquaria states a min 30 gl tank. I would assume this is accurate so not a good idea for the nano contest. Very cool looking fish!! |
Mine is in with a flame hawk and a juvi red corris wrasse, he doesnt pick on anything, and the other fish seem to leave him alone (they can sting). I used to have an emerald crab that he left alone (till the wrasse killed it). I dont have any shrimp yet, but the plan for the 60g that he'll be going into (minus the wrasse) includes some shrimp.
I think if you search for the long fin wasp fish you will find a little more info (still not a ton). I spot feed mine, as they aren't stellar swimmers (I use a turkey baster and put the food in the tank near him or right in front of him to ensure he eats). He was already eating frozen when I got him. |
Hmm, I like the sound of your set up actually. What size tank is he in now?
