Original Thread:

I just got some frags, and asked the guy to send me some pics of the mother colonies as he didn't know the ID of them. I tried to edit them a bit so they are easier to see. I'm not sure if they are good enough for an ID or not?? He says they are different from eachother, but they sure look a lot alike!! These are his pics not mine:

just putting this out there, but maybe valida for the first?
and Nana for the second?

christyf5 08-23-2009 12:16 AM

they both look the same to me but either nana or valida

Myka 08-23-2009 12:25 AM

The frags are more like micro colonies, if I got some good close ups of them would that help since you can see the growth pattern of the mothers, then maybe the structure would be identifiable by the frags? I can't even see the difference from valida and nana from doing Google searches... The second one was sold to me as "tricolor acros" if that helps at all...I doubt it.

fishytime 08-23-2009 12:51 AM

Ya the "tri-color" part of the name applies to many acros....I was gonna ID them the other way around:lol: colony 1 Nana, colony 2 valida...either way....looks like a couple of nice pieces there....

Myka 08-23-2009 12:58 AM

Ok, here's the frags...and after using a magnifying glass I notice the tricolor has RED BUGS!!! :censored: :mad2: :censored: None of my other SPS seem affected...yet. Hmmm, I wonder how quickly I can get my hands on some Interceptor around here? Probably cost me a vet visit for my dog...uhm ok that frag is probably getting canned, one frag isn't worth the cost of a vet visit. Maybe I will try a fw dip first or something.

Anyway...

This frag:

From this colony:

And this frag (with red bugs...look close):

So...do the new closeups help at all?

Ya Dude 08-23-2009 06:21 PM

both are receding the same.Could be AEFW, wouldnt want a frag of those guys.

fooser 08-23-2009 06:38 PM

I would venture to say, first one nana, second one valida.

Myka 08-23-2009 06:38 PM

Thanks fooser. :)

If you take a read what I posted it's actually red bugs, just noticed them yesterday while I was using a magnifying glass for photos. No flatworms. I thought the recession was just from a rough trip they took to get to my place and the fact the were fresh cut frags shipped to me. I'm sure they will heal up. Luckily they are the only two Acros in my tank. Interceptor dips from now on...lesson learned.
