Sand question
 

Hello, I have been lurking for a while now, I dont have enough eperience to start handing out advice I do enjoy reading it tho. I would like to say thanks to all who take the time to post so us new geeks can gather the info needed to be successful in the hobby. So thanks. Question - Where can a person get sand for a DSB in the city without buying live sand. I would like to keep this as inexpensive as possible. I have read about southdown and I dont think it is available in Calgary, What is everyone using?

you are correct, i have never heard of anyone ever getting southdown in canada, so i doubt it's in calgary :mad: i can't speak for everyone else but canadian man just brought in a pallet of caribsea sugar-fine aragonite from saltwater connections in winnipeg and a few of us are using it. he's been talking about bringing more in, i'm sure he'll pipe up and let you know where that stands. there are other substrates in use as well, but i don't know as much about them (crushed coral, larger types of aragonite).

I actually saw the bagged SWC sand finally.

I use Caribsea.

There are a few of us who use glass beads as a part of the substrate. Glass beads are quite light, and seem to work better if mixed with the Aragonite. It will keep your cost down as it is only $20.00 for 20 KG. Being glass it is inert. I have found that critters like Cerith snails really like it. they really work the substrate when the beads are used. :changes:

Wow I miss alot now that my busy season at work has begun :lol:

Anyway if there is enough intrest in sand I will bring in another pallet next month.

how many bags were you looking for?

It would depend on the cost and how big the bags are, if you have this info that would be greatly appreciated and I can let you know how many I can take. Thanks a bunch

Well, the bags are $25.00 each and the bags are 30 to 35lbs each.

I have not ordered the pallet yet and won't till I find out if there is demand for the bags.
