e-bay

Can someone tell me how bidding works on ebay? I was bidding on a item, the bid increment was $10. My final bid was $450, someone at the last second bid $450.11. How can someone bid $0.11 if the increments are $10?

I dont know the details of Ebay but I have had many similar things happen.
I wanted one item, I knew the auction would end an hour after I got home from work. Just before I left for work, there was 10hrs remaining, with travel time, 8hr work day, I should have had enough time to watch the last half hour. Come home to find the auction ended 2hrs earlier and some dork bid $0.10 over me in the final minute.

What where you bidding on? Maybe the seller chose not to sell to you, I think they can do that?

Message the seller and ask him/her whats the deal.

I would guess that someone made $450.11 their top bid maybe earlier today or well before the auction closed anyway, perhaps when the auction first started. Its a technique used to get an edge over other bidders since most people bid in dollar increments. It certainly worked for that guy.

Do you have a link to the auction? Usually, you can't outbid someone by .11 when increments are $10 unless they bid first and your bid simply revealed their max bid.

EDIT: Yeah, what Christy said.

i find ebay ok if you really want somthing badly. but most of the time get out bid by those chicken hawks that wait till about 40 sec then bid so you dont have time to bid again.

You all know that for a tiny fee, there are sites that'll snipe for you so you can spend your time doing something more productive like sleeping or feeding your fish.

 No, I didn't know that. Probably that would take the fun out of it for me a bit.

Hmm, I had the top bid several times, the starting bid increments were $1. oh well, I wrote the seller asking him how that works... see what he says. I guess that why I usually use "Buy it now". To be honest, I don't think I've ever won a auction...
