WOW!! Thats awesome John.. Great job!!
|
so i recently did some work on the left hand side of my tank, the green stags were getting O.O.C. (out of control)
I donated the stags to a reefing friend that recently lost his massive colony of birdnest to help fill out his tank again. I did keep a few clipping for my self I am sure in the near future, i will have to remove some more pieces as everything is very close together. I have gone through phases where i like one coral more than the other, but the one variety of SPS i love the most is the stylo, poccis. when I do reaquascape there will be more of these clustering corals in my tank. so here are some mixed pics. after the colonies removed, very messy http://i496.photobucket.com/albums/r...1000/left6.jpg http://i496.photobucket.com/albums/r...1000/left1.jpg http://i496.photobucket.com/albums/r...1000/left2.jpg |
|
and I just noticed this, it looks like some kinds chicken, just missing a beak
Its creepy, i might have to move something.:lol::lol: http://i496.photobucket.com/albums/r...00/chicken.jpg |
How does the pink stylo grow for you? Just curious as I always found mine (when I had one) to be agonizingly slow growing.
LOVE that pink though. |
Hey Tony,
I do find them to be a bit slow, which is good for me as I really like there colors and shapes. I think there is an exception to the slow growing part, this would be Coral Masters rainbow stylo. I had gotten a frag of it awhile ago and its now a small colony, very fast growing and very cool colors. |
Looks Great John
Lots more room for even more coral :Banane04: You mentioned a while back that you were looking for a new light fixture. Did you change your lighting in the end? S. |
Quote:
i did not change my lighting yet, i am still debating on what to do, as there are very few 72inch t5 fixtures, lots with MH combos, but I think am going to stick with the t5s. I did think about trying to add a fixture to this, but even this is a bit difficult as it has to be a certain width, and everything i am finding is either 4 or 5 inchs to wide. and i think if i add a center brace it will take away from the open top look. the reason for the center brace would be so i can add 2, 3ft t5 fixtures/ |
Lookin good John! I love Stylos too.

Have you considered a 60 inch T5, you'll just lose 6 inches per side, you can keep lower light SPS on the ends of you tank? Your Stylo's and Poccis's are looking great, I'll have to keep an eye out for some of those pink one's. |

i do know that when i have a new system, it will be one of these fixtures. the pink, i really like it. the polyps have stayed pink thus far. for those following my blub selection, i have played around with the d&d actinc plus, the colors really poped in the tank, very nice blub, as well, i tried a the d&d pure actinic, these blubs were insane, the colors of the corals were unreal. they didnt even look like my tank. i am waiting for the new "super blue" from KZ, they should be in town come some time january. so i will be switching over. i am waiting to hear back from Thomas and Regina of KZ, to see what the ratio of blubs is to, new gens, fiji;s and coral light is. |
so the new tubes are lookin fine. snapped a few pics tonight, but the glass has been neglicted, and its hazzy. so here a top down taken with white balance.

Hi John,
You're correct about the PM, one drawback is the hanging, plus they are heavy so one needs something very sturdy. Do you have a link for the KZ Super Blue? I hope they send over some 80W, as there is very little selection available and no suppliers here in Canada for 80W, I have to get my bulbs shipped from reefgeek in CA  Now a FTS with those new tubes... |
Very nice John. But umm, I hate to be the one to point this out to you but the audience wants a FTS haha. So hurry up and get that tank aquascaped to your typical level of perfection and get that camera of yours running:razz:

Hi John,
Thanks for the link, hopefully KZ(Proline) can get some 80W'ers over here. Tank is looking fantastic, amazing eye candy. Do you have any LPS/softies in there, it looks to be 100% SPS, and there's nothing wrong with that:lol: |
Quote:
so for LPS and softies i have: 2 fungia plates misc mushrooms, all over the tank GSP here and there, i do expoxy it and wait for it grow over and then remove it that way, its worked so far. kenya tree way in back and an aussie acan frag the rest is all SPS  thanks for the comps, and i might have some more eye candy on the way from BC. |
oceanic SPS
got some recent eye candy. very nice stuff, all encrusted and full of color even after transit.
. thanks Paul for some nice frags fire truck monti. way way better in person. http://i496.photobucket.com/albums/r...0/IMG_2388.jpg and a two pack of OC bonsai. http://i496.photobucket.com/albums/r...0/IMG_2390.jpg |

hello everyone, so its been about 2 weeks with the new tubes in, this pic is the best that i can get that reps the acctual color of the corals. except the table by the over flow, it looks super white, but in person is a light green.

Wow, that's really fantastic work over the year. Amazing corals in your tank.
|
yup, its been quite the year here on canreef as well for my tank, going from a softie mix to inbetween to full on SPS.

John your tank is looking stunning. I look at it as one of the things to give me motivation to try and forge forward with mine. I have the same idea as to having a slight mix of LPS with SPS, it just seems to make it more interesting.
|

it is more intresting, you can get different colors and differnt shapes with the LPS, and with the torches and hammers more movement. I would love to have a tank just with hammers and torches and a wavebox that would be cool. |
very very very shiny John! Yep that tank has gotten pretty shiny over the last year indeer :D
PS I only counting 2 FTS when you promised 6!! |
Wow dude tank looks ridiculous ....nice job...
|
Throw a question at ya, if you were to do your lighting from scratch would you still go the T5 only route ? I've always been a MH guy but with trying to cut down on power consumption and seeing the success of your tank and several others it looks like either way gets great results.

thanks for the comp. I have used MH in the past, acutally those are the lighting that is in the very very first pic of this thread. one blub on the right hand side was burnt out. I switched to t5s, and havent looked back. And if i started a new system, I would probably go with 2 of the 3ft 8 blub ATI fixtures with the a mix of 2 actinc plus,2 new gen 14k,2 coral light 10k,2 and fiji purple on each fixture. |
Hi John,
Those are some nice corals that you picked up, any idea if the person/vendor ships(Ontario)? Your tank's looking sweet, that is quite the change in a year. Is this your first time growing SPS? Oh, I think you owe us 5 more FTS  Cheers |
