I noticed that the WLAN tutorial states that the PC must be directly connected to the internet (no connection to a router). I have a router so how do I get around this? Also, under step 1 of the 29.03.2007 provisonal version I can't locate AddOn directory to run the instillations. I found all of the paralist icons and other icons in the folder but nothing that says setup.exe...
Thanks for your help in advance... |
Hello AquaCan
in my opinion it is NOT neccessary to update the firmware of the WLAN-card. The card works with the firmware ex-works and the update may be risky. That's why we don't support after sales firmware updates. If you want more information you can visit the site of the producer of the radio module - Lantronix (www.lantronix.com). |
@AquariumSpecialty:
"the PC must be directly connected to the internet " - I am not sure where you read this. The tutorial says: "The initial configuration (meaning the add-on card still has the settings as supplied by us ) of a WLAN card is exclusively possible over a so-called Ad hoc connection. That means that the PC must be connected directly (without routers or something similar) with the PLM WLAN card!" Summary: PC<->PLM-WLAN connection must be directly and ad hoc. A very important request to all the guys with a PLM-LAN or PLM-WLAN: Please read the instructions & tutorial carefully and follow them absolutely exactly. Any uncorrect setting will cause failure. Redirector & DeviceInstaller They should be on the CD which was shipped with ProfiLux. Or download it directly by Lantronix: http://ltxfaq.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/l...hp?p_faqid=644 and http://ltxfaq.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/l...hp?p_faqid=928 |
I'm looking to by the wireless package and I have few questions after having gone over this thread:
1) As I understand the unit isn't mac compatable unless your using a window's emulator program is this correct? 2) Are there any future plans for the following monitors: nitrates, calcium, alk, and salinity? |
Hi,
here the answers: 1) As I understand the unit isn't mac compatable unless your using a window's emulator program is this correct? - Yes, the software ProfiLuxControl is written for Windows. But i am not sure if the WLAN/LAN-configuration tools (DeviceInstaller/Redirector) work under emulator since they use direct hardware access. This software is developed by Lantronix- so we have no access to the detaills regarding this software 2) Are there any future plans for the following monitors: nitrates, calcium, alk, and salinity? - Monitoring/measuring salinity is allready possible with our conductivity extension card and the cond.-probe. The problem for the other ones is the extremely high price for good and suitable probes. I think no one will pay these prices. And we don't want to offer cheap, not reliable probes. I hope we will find a solution for this dilemma in the future. Regards Matthias |
As a suggetion I would hope that in the future some changes could be made to make it mac compatable. Unfortunately as it stands I won't be purchasing what sounds to be a wonderful controller.
I wish you luck, and I hope in the future I can again look at purchasing your product. |
Hi Guys
here is the new software to control tunze waveboxes, it has a feature in it to fine tune so you can get the box in sync with the tank. Also the new manual and the new debugged English pc control software Firmware http://www.phishybusiness.co.uk/boar...e=post&id=1759 Manual http://www.phishybusiness.co.uk/boar...e=post&id=1761 PC control Software new version http://www.ghl-kl.de/Produkte/Aquari...rolII_V301.exe By May there will also be a dedicated ProfiLux support website www.ghl-profilux.com this is still being built so nothing there yet. Hope all this will help you guys as much as it is helping my retailers and clients in the UK |
does anyone have a link for the firmware update page. the one from phishybusiness didnt work for me and i could have swore i save the link somewhere but cant find it.
|
Hi niloc (and all)
the downloads can be found here: http://www.ghl-kl.de/Produkte/Aquari.../download.html Direct Links ProfiLuxControl 3.01: http://www.ghl-kl.de/Produkte/Aquari...rolII_V301.exe Firmware 3.01: http://www.ghl-kl.de/Produkte/Aquari...LuxII_V301.zip Manual 3.01: http://www.ghl-kl.de/Produkte/Aquari...LuxII_V301.pdf |
Hi Colin,
Not sure why it did not work for you, but looks like Matthias has it covered best wishes Michael |
thanks alot guys
|
I don't see temperature dependent light shut off for metal halide lights in the 3.01 update. It seems to still be for dimmable lights only.
|
Hi Bob
yes, you are right. Although not all features had been programmed in the new release we decided to publish 3.01. The reason is that a lot of people wanted to use the ProfiLux to control the Tunze wavebox, therefore we added a new mode for the current control. But: development is still in progress - the light dep... for MH will be available before it's becoming hot! |
Hello - New to the forums - I've been following this thread for a few weeks now and wondered where I could actually purchase this unit? I have checked prolineaquatics but it doesn't appear to be geared to the consumer? (I am in the US)
I know this might be the wrong place to ask this, but has anyone used this device on a freshwater tank? I am actually running a 210g african cichlid tank which shares some similar qualities of a salt water tank. I wouldn't need as many sensors as salt water, but figured PH, temp, ORP, to start with. (How sensitive is the salinity sensor?) I noticed this unit can do alarming - is there any possibility that it will support email notification? Can anyone post a screenshot of what the datalogging looks like? Thanks and sorry for the questions. Eric |
i dont believe the update is out yet that allows for email and phone notification. but i could be wrong. the unit is or will be capable of emailing and phoning your cell phone with the alarm.
|
I am of the understanding this feature is being released in the next few months.
The biggest plus side to GHL is that they do not release a single thing until it has been fully tested first, this stops technical glitches reaching the customer wherver possible. heads up to them for this. :) |

Hi Eric,
welcome to the forum! - Proline is importer/wholesaler for our products. I am sure they will give you addresses of retailers in USA. - ProfiLux is suitable for freshwater as well. Actually in most European countries there are more "freshwater-users" than "marine-water-users" - Salinity: There are 2 different probes - platinum, suitable for freshwater & marine water, and graphite, only for freshwater The sensivity of the probes is the same, but there are 2 different measurment cards: One has the range 0...2mS (freshwater), the other 0...100mS (marine water) - Email: It is possible to send an email with our extension cards PLM-LAN or PLM-WLAN. I will describe this in a new tutorial in the next days. - Screenshot, please see attachment There you can see the viewer included in ProfiLuxControl. The data is exported as a text file - it is possible to open the data file with other programms, too. Eg Excel. |
Hi All,
a generic hint for all digital powerbar users. We had now 2 customers who wondered why there is no power on the socket although the LED was on. There was the fuse blown. This is no big problem, it can be replaced. But it can be avoided if the max. allowed current is not exceeded. Example: Max. current for socket 1 is 8A. That means: Max. Power = Max. current x Voltage. In the USA: = 8A x 110V = 880W Now we have 2 x 400W MH and first we think that should be OK - wrong! The 400W is only the power of the bulb - not including the power dissipation of the ballast. Assuming the power lost of the ballast is 30% we can calculate (approx.): Power = 2 x 400W x 1.3 = 1040W -> Current = 1040W/110V = 9.5A -> Too much for the fuse! Solution: split the MH to several sockets. Please have a look to the specification plate or datasheet of your lamp, the overall current should be mentioned there. |
good info matthias. thanks again for your time and input on this forum. its good to find a manufacturer that actually cares for the customers and takes the time to help out. alot of companies these days are just in it for the money.

New version of ProfiLuxControl II!
1 Attachment(s)
ProfiLuxControl II version 3.02 can be downloaded:
http://www.ghl-kl.de/Produkte/Aquari...rolII_V302.exe ProfiLuxControl is now able to access PLM-LAN or PLM-WLAN directly, that means without using the PC-software "Lantronix Redirector" (which offers a virtual COM-Port). In the "connection" dialog of ProfiLuxControl II Version 3.02 is a new option given for "connection type": "TCP/IP direct". After choosing this option the IP-Address of the ProfiLux (eg 192.168.0.169) and the port (standard is 10001) has to be entered. That's all. Makes it much easier to establish the connection with LAN/WLAN. In the attachment is a screenshot of the new connections menu. In this example you can see the settings for my network, please change the IP address for your needs. The port 10001 must remain! Summary The direct access (without using "Redirector") makes it much easier to configure & use the LAN or WLAN. We still need the software "Lantronix DeviceInstaller" to assign the IP-address - but we are working on a new firmware 3.02 for the ProfiLux which will allow to enter the IP-address on the ProfiLux directly. We understood that it is has been complicated for some users to configurate and establish the (W)LAN-connection and are working on solutions to make it easier! This was the first step. Another improvement in this version: The time-controls have been enlarged - so it can better be seen if it is am or pm. |
New firmware 3.02!
1 Attachment(s)
As promised:
The new firmware & manual 3.02 is available here: http://www.ghl-kl.de/Produkte/Aquari...LuxII_V302.zip http://www.ghl-kl.de/Produkte/Aquari...LuxII_V302.pdf The IP-address can be entered now directly on ProfiLux, please read chapter 3.15.16 Communication. And it is possible to change from ad-hoc to infrastructure-mode (only interesting for WLAN). The attached photo shows entering an IP on the ProfiLux. |
Great news Matthias !
Continue the great work :) Very satisfied Profilux owner ! Ginzo |
Very Nice Matthias!
This is a huge step in the right direction. Now it is much easier to connect to the Profilux from anywhere with an Internet connection. From what I gather all you need to do now is install Profilux Control on any computer (like at work) and you should be able to connect to your Profilux @ home. (so long as you have access to port:10001 traffic on both sides) This is MUCH MUCH better. |
thats awesome matthias. now i'm actually excited to try and get the wlan setup again.
|
Thanks for the feedback!
The connection over internet is no problem, too. I tried this here at home - it works absolutely reliable. These are the steps to establish a connection from somewhere to the ProfiLux at home: - You need a domainname for at home, like www.mydomain.com. You can obtain this at DynDNS for example - Install ProfiLuxControl II on your "remote" PC (eg at work) - Edit the connection-options -> Hostname is now NOT the IP-address of your ProfiLux (eg 192.168.0.169) but your domainname (eg www.mydomain.com). Under "Hostname" are IPs AND domainnames accepted! - configure your router at home: incoming tcp-calls on port 10001 must be redirected to the IP of your ProfiLux (in this example 192.168.0.169) |
Is anyone using V3.01 or above firmware with Digi plug bars via USB expansion?
|
yes, Michael.
Me & most of USA/CD customers. And all customers worldwide with digital powerbars. (some may have still 3.00, others may have 3.02) I think in sum about 300. |
Just wondering if this unit can controll pumps that operate on AC? eg. SEIO's and Koralia's.
Also, what is the compatability between these and the Vortech? Thanks, Albert |
hey albert,
i'm not sure on your first question but the about the vortechs, they are currently not able to control the vortechs but i have heard they are discussing the issue with ecotech. sorry thats all the info i got |
Hi Matthias,
Can an IP-address be entered on the Profilux even if I don't have the LAN/WLAN card installed on my Profilux ? I would like to try to connect using a D-Link Wireless USB adapter, that would be plugged into my RS232-to-USB adapter ? Would this work ? Thanks, Ginzo Quote:
|
Hi
@Albert: Not all pumps can be dimmed by the reduction of the voltage (AC-side). It depends on the motor type, the pump-producer can give this information. If the pump is dimmable by reducing the mains voltage you will be able to control the pump with our new dimmable socket - coming soon. Vortech: I can't promis this feature at the moment. @Ginzo: That doesn't work. These USB-WLAN adapters are constructed for the PC-side, you can't connect it to ProfiLux. It's the same like connecting a USB-WLAN to a printer or other device - not possible. |
matthias,
question for you. with the new firmware is it possible to control more then 2 tunzes? just today i connected a third tunze to the system using the L1-L2 splitter but i realized that the controller only has the capability now to control 2 current pumps. what i mean by this is 2 of the 3 tunzes now are doing the same function in random mode. |
Quote:
Is it a bug in 3.01 (fixed in 3.02 maybe??) or is the problem in my unit? |
Quote:
|
@niloc: at the moment only 2 pumps (or groups) can be controlled independently. I am not sure how to programm a mode for more than 2 pumps. Now it is easy - 2 pumps, one ebb, other flood and vv. But how can i program 3 or more pumps?
@jukka: i must be honest with you - firmware 3.01 has a little bug regarding the pulse/pause mode. Durations longer than 256s (damned BYTES and WORDS...) can't be calculated. From 3.02 this function is OK. |
Thanks Matthias,
Can we expect at some point an update to the firmware that will enable us to send an email when an alarm goes off..or an SMS ? Regards, Ginzo |
Now if somebody could only explain to me the "probe holder pieces" that came with my Profilux..I'm a little baffled at how to set them up ?

whoa ! would have taken me forever to figure that out !
Thanks for the post ! Here's the picture in question: http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c7...50x478_151.jpg |
Out of curiousity, is there a different number of upgradable slots between the Basic package and the Complete package? If so, how many slots?
