that list of words is meaningless....to me it looks like alternating black and white letters....you have to give me more than that....er us :)

I am doing some work in the tank this afternoon so will quickly do the glass and snap a couple shot when it gets dark outside(otherwise I get major glare from the living room window).

My regal is almost 100% better. It has been just over two weeks and was starting to worry he was going to loose the eye. Looks like my decision to leave it in the display and wait things out worked out this time.

Nems is evil....have I mentioned that? My green bta split:neutral:.....Now I have three!

Hey doug. This is Sean, that silly guy who was doing some reno work at maxwell beside RC. Long time no see  I really need to find time to get down to that end of town. Why are you guys so far! Anyways I've been trolling your build for a while now and everything looks great. I also recently took out a g midday too. I found I got way to much algae stimulation with it and also it's very "white". I replaced it with a kz fiji purple and loved it.

Oh I also read in a diff post that you been dosing with "some" ZEO product and have had good results. I have moved into a full ZEO dosing regiment (minus the reactor) and have had great results aswell. Just a question, I read you don't use the zeo amino acid product because it's much cheaper. Im wondering if you have had good results with it. Some people have posted switching from the Zeo amino to another product and then ending up switching back due to the results. I trust your opinion though and honestly saving any coin in this hobby is a good thing.

Hey....hows it going man? Your right ....you should make it up our way more often:biggrin: Thanks for the comp. For me it wasnt algae, it was purely the color that I didnt like. I thought the midday would increase coral growth and had I been able to live with the color I suppose it would have done that. The color looked more yellow to my eye. I guess I can live with slightly slower growth rates in lue of a more visually appealing tank. Thats the beauty of T5s. You can custom tailor the appearance by mixing bulbs.

Honestly....when Im done with this bottle of Seachem amino,I will likely switch to the Pohls. Not becuase I am unhappy with the seachem, but because of the reputation of the Pohls products as being the "best". I started my amino dosing with the seachem at the suggestion of a customer and the benefits were almost immediate. I agree trying to save a few bucks where you can is essential, but like most things in this hobby ...you get what you pay for.

*sigh* thats what I figured. I guess I will still put the money up for the KZ products lol. Your so true with "you get what you pay for". Atm I am kicking myself in the ass for buying a euroreef RS skimmer. If I would have known better I wouldn't have have thought that 1000 dollar bubble king wasn't a rip off . Now I wanna get rid of this thing and pick one up. Or at minimum something that recirculates.

As far as the midday bulb, yeh it was an ugly ass yellow. For some reason though it really stimulated "common" green film algae growth in my tank. Especially on my glass. As soon as I swapped it out for a KZ fiji purple I went from having to clean my glass daily to once every couple days.

I am going to have to get some pics up of my tank one day to show you, but unfortunately my 150 dollar camera mixed with my noobie photography skills really takes shitty pictures. For some reason my camera can't seem to take a picture of my tank that's not blurry or has bad white balance. Even in macro mode. Who knows, maybe the camera is fine and it's all the end user

fishytime 01-26-2009 04:24 PM

My camera is a P&S that wasnt terribly expensive. Most of the outside the tank shots I do with a tripod. That makes a huge difference. The close ups and top downs are done with the camera in the tank and obviously I end up rattling off a few shots, trying to get non-blurry and subject centered pictures.

Crappy pics is better than noooo pics. On that note.... heres a couple crappy actinic shots.

I got him!!!!!

ElGuappo 01-27-2009 05:50 AM

So how long did it take???

fishytime 01-27-2009 06:11 AM

About three hours. My flame angel gets an assist. I cut the bottom off one of my acan frags to mount it permanently my rockwork. I put the epoxy on and squished it in where I wanted it. The whole process of course irritated the heck out of the acan causing it to slime like crazy. The bi-color was on it in a second, pecking the ba-jeebers out of it. That was the straw so to speak. I put the bottle trap in and baited it with the slimming acan.I left the neck part of the trap off so there was just one large opening. So I sat.......on the coffee table in front of the tank......caught my solar wrasse twice, again....bonehead....My Talbots damsel swims in(he doesnt know it but Ive secretly been wanting him out of the tank too)....I jump up, plunge my hand in the tank and cover the opening to the trap....but not well enough...he squeezed out as I tried to get the trap out of the tank.... Finally the target fish neared the opening to the trap...just then my flame angel took a run at the bi-color , scaring him into the trap...again I swoop in and this time cover the opening better and....:BIG:

That story got me excited. The sort of excitement that belongs on one of those 'you know you're a reefer when...' lists. Nice work. I've only ever hunted crabs but these battles we have get intense (and kill the arms when you're poised waiting!)

The difference after your bulb swab is incredible. I love the new look you've got there.

JDigital 01-27-2009 06:56 AM

Congratulations... That deserves a beer.. or two.

I say that millies do strange things in my tank because about a year ago I bought two millie frags from Greg. One pink and one green. Over the course of the year the green millie changed into a pink millie (with green polyps).

lorenz0 02-02-2009 03:49 AM

that millie looks like it will get a nice blue to it with green polyps. or maybe a deep purple

still an awesome colony

JDigital 02-03-2009 04:24 AM

So no new pics?? :wink::twised:

Haven't made it down there yet. Gimme the heads up on a good SPS shipment and I might have to make the special trip. I usually work all around town but i've been getting lots of jobs in the south, close to home.

Im not sure Randi. This one isnt as nice as the frag that my bi-color ate. That one had more of the lime green in it. I dont believe there is another frag at the store. If you like acans wait until the Australia shipment comes in.....They are gonna be expensive but, OMG are they sweet.

Rbacchiega 02-05-2009 04:45 PM

I have at least one type of Acan in all my tanks. I heart Acans. They are like are my chocolate of corals...they....well you get the idea.

PM me before the order comes in...I want first dibs LOL

I like the fish catching story!

The birdsnest I got from you is growing like a weed, which I love, and turning a more and more vibrant green as time goes on! The cap is beautiful, but its oddly being a slow grower. Thanks again!

How are you liking the new bulb?

Gotta like a women that hearts acans.:mrgreen:We are getting them as colonies and will likely be fragging them up so there should be plenty to go around.

The things we do for this hobby huh?
Your welcome Catherine.Birdsnest is a great coral for the ego....easy to take care of and grows really fast. Most of my montis took a while to settle in to the tank, but once they do settle down they grow pretty darn fast too.

Loooove the new bulbs. It really changed the way the tank looks. Im thinking I may swap in two of the KZ "new gen" bulbs. I placed them side by side with the Giessmann blue+ at the store and the color of the two bulbs is slightly different, although they are both supposed to be 15000k.

I might be removing my solar wrasse:sad:. I dont really want to but we got a few bonded pairs of "hooded" fairy wrasses in at the shop that I just cant pass up. I will need to rig up some kind of top first as I cant risk these new high-end wrasses carpet surfing. I think I will add the pair and see what happens. I know that I will be able to catch the solar wrasse as I have caught him three times as a bi-catch when I was fishing for my bi-color angel. I just think that two hoodeds, a solar and a carpenters flasher might be a whole lotta wrasse for a 110g tank. Also, Im still hoping that I will find my "holy grail" fish... a lineatus wrasse.*fingers crossed*

The beta fish (Cirrhilabrus bathyphilus) wrasses were doing really well so they came home from the shop last night. I released them into the display and they both dive bombed into the rock. The female found a good spot at the bottom of the tank and rested there for quite a while. The male didnt have it so good. The spot he chose is frequented by my now aggressive flame angel( he wasnt before, when I had the bi-color angel), who proceeded to harass (pun intended) the newbie for the rest of the evening. Im assuming the pair spent their first night in the tank alone. There was no sign of either of them in the morning and I spent my morning at work thinking I should have rigged up the egg crate top the night before. So......I ran home at lunch to find the pair reunited and not straying to far from what I guess is home base for them for now(a rock in the back of the tank:neutral:). Both fish ate with the rest of the gang first feeding and in watching them tonight they are slowly expanding their roaming. I havnt been able to get a pic of my own yet, bit I found this old thread about the fish from another forum that contains a few good pics http://www.reefs.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=69550& .

There was some nice stuff in that order. Not near as much as we were hoping for. I am developing a serious fondness for acans, favia and blastos lately. Now that the little coral muncher is gone I seem to be able to add and keep them now.
