Sorry I should of explained. I was laughing about my imagination and my ignorance. When I saw the "R" rating all sorts of very different images went through my head and I was thinking OMG what did he post. So when I scrolled down and saw the star fish I felt somewhat relieved. Then I had to laugh at myself because if there hadn't been an "R" rating I never would of known.

Vlamingi?

How is your Vlamingi Tang doing? I purchased mine right around the same time as you. Mine has grown remarkably, and I'm curious if you are seeing the same growth rate.

How are your Blue Throat Triggers? When I visited, they looked kind of thin and intimidated and I'm wondering how they have done. Their behaviour was 100% opposite of how the Blue Throats behave in my system.

Congrats on TOTM! Well deserved and you've certainly been through it to get there!

niloc16 03-05-2008 07:27 AM

thanks brad

sorry i didnt see your last post on here. the triggers are doing alot better now, the female is finally eatin something other than mysis shrimp. she has to be a female because she is so high maintenance

the vlamingi is doing well, not growing as fast as yours but always has a big belly

i finally had to refill my calcium reactor after a year and a half and still one of the chambers was half filled.. i could not resist another harem of anthias today. i dont know their exact name yet but i will find it, i got a male and 3 females and they are eating like pigs already. one is still hiding though. there was another frag that was calling my name so grabbed it too

From the pictures they look like Threadfin Anthias (http://fishbase.org/Summary/speciesS...name=carberryi ), particularly because the yellow on the dorsal doesn't start to appear until behind the eye. Click on the fish picture for more images. My second guess would be Bartlet's Anthias, but the yellow starts from the mouth and goes right from the tail. (http://fishbase.org/Summary/speciesS...e=bartlettorum ) Some of the fish seem to have the yellow starting from their noses, and one from behind its eye. Either way a nice harem!

Your SPS are just beautiful. Do you find you get more of one color under you lighting? E.g. more pieces turn blue/purple?

niloc16 03-19-2008 06:08 PM

thanks for the info catherine. still not sure if it is either of them.

its one of my favs too jason. and there is a good story behind that, it was a big wild colony about 7" across and during the dino outbreak it stripped out over night on me. i was really choked but i was able to clip 3 or 4 tips to try and save it. within 2 days they rtn'd as well. about a week or so later once the dinos were gone i was doing a big tank cleanup and pulled out a bunch of halimeda and in the bunch was this chunk that i fragged and it must have fallen down and i never noticed. it struggled for 2 weeks and finally recovered and now its really starting to grow. i'm so glad because its a wicked tri-color plana.

here it is before the death. its with my old camera and it didnt adjust well for color. its not this purple its more white base with purple and blue tips

On the Anthias I would say they are Barletts.

Always a Great joy to come back to this thread.

Great looking Coral Colin..

How is you Angel doing any issues?

J

niloc16 03-28-2008 05:40 AM

thanks alot jason

the angel is doing really good actually. he seems to nip at the corals a tad but i have yet to see any damage or polyp retraction even right after he hit it. i'm not sure if it the coral or something else he goes after. he eats anything given to him and is not bothered by anything else even the flame angel which is a major bugger to anything new, he didnt even look twice at the emperor when added

Sebae again 03-28-2008 07:26 AM

Your corals look freakin amazing !

niloc16 04-03-2008 05:32 AM

finally the tank is starting to pay for itself. i'm completely hooked on fragging. if i had room i would have tons of frags. i did some more tonight and the frag rack i built is jammed packed. i'm seriously contemplating setting something up in the stand to make as a frag tank. having a bit of a cyano attack lately. i changed reactor media and didnt adjust my co2 accordingly and it shot alk up to 18dkh which kicked the cyano in gear. its slowly coming down now but i hate looking at it.

tang daddy 05-08-2008 01:47 AM

Wow Colin, didn't realize that you had this many fish great selection and vibrant colours. How does the angel hold up on the sps?

niloc16 05-08-2008 04:05 AM

the angel doesnt bother anything thank god

marie 05-08-2008 04:16 AM

Just for the record even if your angel did pick at your sps, I've found that the corals are amazingly tolerant of being picked on. Mine aren't adversly affected at all by having tips and polyps nipped. Now lps on the other hand just seem to wither and die and zoos disappear quicker then a sheet of nori :twised:

Marlin65 05-08-2008 04:28 AM

Great pictures love all the fish.

Delphinus 05-08-2008 04:43 AM

Colin, out of curiousity, what are your nitrates with all those fish? You don't run Zeo or Ultralith or anything like that, do you? How many lbs per gallon of rocks do you have?

I'm just curious, everything looks really great ... you have a much larger fish load than I've ever run so I'm curious what the effects are. (The irony is you have SPS doing well and I ... don't. :( )

niloc16 05-08-2008 06:21 AM

tony - i havent tested nitrate in about a month or so but when i do it is pretty much undetectable. i run no zeo systems or additives. i only run rowaphos in a reactor. in the main dispay i have about 180 - 200 lbs of rock and about 50lbs in the sump. i do weekly water changes and i syphon 1/3 of the sandbed each time. i have thought lately about the fish load and nitrate issue but everything gets along extremely well, corals are rocking and water clarity is great so i havent stressed too much about it.

Chaloupa 05-08-2008 06:29 AM

I'd have to say those pictures are many times better than any I take...very nice fish collection and wow, that's quite a few tangs! And your tank looks stunning!

Joe Reefer 05-08-2008 03:48 PM

Nice! I like the shot with the 3 tangs in it.

Lance 05-08-2008 11:06 PM

Corals are outstanding! and all the fish look nice and healthy. Beautiful tank!

Parker 05-09-2008 01:02 AM

Amazing, as always Colin!

untamed 05-09-2008 01:08 AM

Have you kept track of how many fish you have? What's the count? I'm at 18 and had to write them down in order to count them. It looks like you have WAAY more than that.

niloc16 05-09-2008 04:32 AM

i havent counted yet brad but i guarantee i'm way above 18. i'd have to write them down.

niloc16 05-09-2008 04:41 AM

so i tried to count and i think i'm at 43 fish.

niloc16 05-09-2008 04:59 AM

i just checked the parameters on the tank because i figured when i posted the amount of fish there would be some response.

CA 450
kh 8
mg 1380
no3 3-4 mg/lt
po4 undetectable

all taken with elos test kits

untamed 05-09-2008 06:14 AM

43!!! Wow...Ha..ha..well...a lot of those fish are pretty small. I don't think anyone is going to suggest your system isn't healthy. Mind you...those two Nasos are going to get large. I see your vlamingi is as much of a pig as mine!

niloc16 05-10-2008 06:49 PM

i made a fish list this morning and think i have them all on here

3 bartlett anthias
3 redbar anthias
3 lyretail anthias
5 chromis
2 bluethroat triggers
2 oscellaris clowns
3 scopa tangs
