I agree with not using MDF either. Tends to bloat when wet and will not shrink back to the original dimensions after it dries. It will also lose its structural integrity.

Thanks guys, I have already bought 3/4" plywood to replace it, and have found another gallon of marine paint. I'll change this out. I have phoned and got my glass moved to Tuesday so I will not be in a rush to get the new top on.
