Some very nervesous moments in this house tonight, first time I have every filled a tank for the first time IN THE HOUSE!!!

Well kinda...like 1/3rd...without salt...without sand....without rock...and without livestock. Seems like you are putting effort to fast pace everything recently  |
Woohoo, wetness! Sweet :D

looking good buddy, you must be nervous as hell with that much water. Hope it all is good and you dont end up with a mess. Fingers crossed for ya bro!

Yea it was a cool build to see in person when I picked up that bulkhead. My GF was jealous she didn't get to check it out haha. It's very well designed and built system. Wish I had those building skills! When I upgrade to a 1-300 gal tank I'll be going to a store lol.
|
Showed your tank filling to my niece she wanted to know if you could swim in it gotta love the minds of kids
|
Well it's full & flowing at half the pump volume because I'm waiting for a replacement power supply for one of my WaveLine DC1000. ZERO plumbing leaks so I'm very very happy with that but I am going to have to add a balancing line to join the 2 return side together, not a big deal.

WOW!!! Absolutly huge build! Coming along great. That sump is definatly a work of art. nice clean plumbing. Great job on the tank aswell. I know if it were me it would of looked like the caulking gun exploded, it would of been all over the wife, the dog and not to mention my 2 yo hahahaha.
|
Holey moley, I think you could have a future in plumbing.
Now if you could just attach electric solenoids to those gate valves and hook it up to a keyboard, you could play that thing like an organ. (not in a Monty Python way please) Seriously, you're going to love the control of flow to different parts of your tank. How do you remove the filter socks for cleaning? |

The last piece of pipe on the OF is in glued in, just turn off the flow, pull out the down tube & pull out the filter sock. |

wow grizz,
simply put, this is the tank that all of us reefers aspire to. The professionalism on that sump is incredible. I just have one question i can't figure out... I see 6 return pumps, though only two on each side are plumbed to return lines - it looks like the four pumps feed 8 separate return lines. What are the other two pumps for? |
WOW!!! That looks amazing!!! I'm as excited and anxious for you to get it all running, as everyone else, good luck!! :)
|
Great job Greg, you'll have fish in there before you know it.

If you base design conditions on a 1" different between chamber heights, a single 2NPS line will only flow around 1000GPH max. Given the flow rate of each pump, the number of pumps on each side, the fact each run on current switching devices and you plan on adjusting flow rates on each line with gate valves you will need the capability of a larger flow rate than say 1000GPH. Also if one pump is shut off for maintenance or other reasons this number will have to increase further. 1" design difference may also be too extreme as well when you consider how your ATO will work. Ultimately 3-4 2NPS connection pipes may be needed, whether there is room for this or not is the question. Since you're against gaps under baffles the best solution may be removing the baffles and trimming the width, then adding another baffle that connects the chambers of each side. Wow Greg, what a tank. I can't wait to see it in person and with the cubes. It looks like all that planning and hardwork is paying off. Your gonna have one of the nicest tanks in Alberta. Its gonna put the last 300 tank i saw to shame. It would make a great backdrop to a red deer and area reefers meeting;).
|
I do appreciate your thoughts and efforts here Steve but taking out the baffles, cutting them down & adding a back passage channel is not an option at this point. I am going to wait to do anything else until I can get all the pumps running to see what the difference might be.
I think the easiest way of balancing the 2 return side would be just a 1" pipe to join them. I can test this by using the 2 holes for the middle pumps on both ends with a few fitting and a piece of hose. Update on this to come. |

Should have my order of some Profilux products tomorrow if Fedex tracking is correct.
Also have been thinking of doing a power linear lift actuator to be able to adjust my lighting up or down by remote control :surprise: |

It's funny how this Hobby has transformed me, I am drooling over elotronic reef keeping equipment and envy your new set up. The plumbing isn't looking too shabby either. Call me a geek, I still think its cool. Cant wait to see how this build looks when all said and done.
