Heres a few from this weekend's work. I epoxied the acrylic rods with sand, but still have to put on some work on them. The rest of the canopy will follow soon enough, just need some time.

Looks great Bob, can't wait to see it up and running. What kind of L.E.D's did you go with?

Bob picked up a used solaris I-5 light it looks like a monster, he will probably supplement with a few modular fixtures just waiting to find one he likes. It looks even better in person.

The Codfather 11-29-2011 01:50 PM

Thanks for the encouragement guys and gals. I have done a few things as of late, just no time to do a few pictures.
I'll post when I have a bit of time, my dad has had a stroke, and is in the U of A hospital. So I have not had a stitch of free time in the last 5 weeks to do a whole lot. He's was doing good and was starting to walk again when he suffered a second stroke last Monday, a month after the first. So we're back at square one, but he's kept a positive attitude and has started to do his rehab again.
Just to let you know, the tank is full of water and cycling. Im not sure if I'll have much of a cycle as the rock Im using was in a holding tank for the last year.
On a lighter note, I have forgotten how my skimmer works and it took me about an hour to get things figured out. Afterwards I did have a good laugh at myself as sometimes I can be so stupid.
I do however want to thank everyone who's come by and given me a hand in the last little while, I do appreciate it.
So I'll update in a bit when life calms down a little and I get dad home.

ALang 11-29-2011 02:24 PM

Hey, so take it easy for a bit. Sorry that we harassed you so much.
We are just very excited for your new build.
Hopefully your Dad will be OK, and home for Christmas and new year celebrations.

Take care. Lenny.

New pics

I know Ive been telling you that the new pics are coming, life has been a bit crazy the last couple months, a few new things have sprung up. The first couple of pictures are of the new skimmer, couldn't be happier with it. Thanks to Dave at concepts for bringing it in, much appreciated, just want to say this is a beast and by far the best skimmer I have ever had, next to the SM250.
This is the SM300, Im sure some of you have seen the exact same skimmer on Dougs build, heres the beast in action and what it can do.

This is the lid and collector after about 10 days, Ive been feeding quite hard and scrapping up the rock, as I've had a problem with hair algae from all the dry rock used. I of course didn't soak it first and Im sure it was the reason for the hair algae problems.
This by the way is at least 2L of yummy skimate.

Hopefully more to come tonight.

tank

Heres a couple random pics of the tank, my lights should be here next week or the week after. I went with the sunbrites, staying with leds, I hope they are as good as they say.
I only took pics of the north side of the tank as the lighting is just on the on side, Ill try to get a few more up as the night goes by. Half the fish are on the other side of the tank, Ill try to get a shot of a few.

Ugly power head in the tank until my big pumps get here.

There is still a lot to do, but at least I have something to look at now.

The Codfather 05-01-2012 09:57 PM

New top off Tank

Thanks Dave, fits perfectly.
I bought a pull shelve, it allows me to pull the top up tank 6" out for easy filling.

LED lighting

I pulled the trigger and bought the F series from Sunbrite. They're all hooked up through my iPhone and seem to be working just fine. I have them at about 25% in the pictures, at 100%, it far too bright in the tank.
I have to thank Ray for getting them here, and for answering my thousand questions.

Eco blue pumps

Now word is my pumps will be ready next week, so they'll be the next thing to go in before I start the finishing around the tank. Ill update when they arrive.
I haven't been around too much as work has me all over the place. Thanks for looking,
Bob

Thanks Mike, its been a slow go lately. Finally made some headway. Those pumps are due to be shipped next week, so when you have a sec, we'll have to get together and do a bit of 220 v wiring.

fishytime 05-15-2012 05:12 AM

OMG.....an update!.....the tank is looking really good man....and I just may have to steal the slide out top up shelf idea....thats awesome!

subman 05-15-2012 01:20 PM

Looks great Bob!
Where did you find the shelf hardware?

fixerupper 05-15-2012 04:38 PM

Wow that's bright for 25%. Very nice!
The fish are gonna need sunglasses when you ramp up.

lastlight 05-15-2012 04:43 PM

I don't think I've seen a more thoroughly and evenly lit LED tank that's nuts man. Things are looking great =)

I'm a bit disappointed you didn't rig that pullout with drawer slides though lol. I like to keep it ghetto.

Lee Valley.
Item # 12K26.01
Cost $59.99
works well, has a 210 lb capacity, just have to make sure its level so it doesnt slide out on you. That could get messy.

Ya, I dont think there is a shadow anywhere in the tank. I think Id actually boil the water if I took it to 100%. Just have to start playing with the colors and programming now. I thought 4 would be a little overkill, and maybe it will be, but easier to do it now than later.

Coralgurl 05-15-2012 06:50 PM

I am speechless, your tank is beautiful, love the rockwork!! I can't get over how creative people are, this will be stunning as it matures! Thanks for sharing your build!

lastlight 05-15-2012 08:30 PM

are you placing the black trim back onto the tank or leaving it natural now?

fishoholic 05-16-2012 12:31 AM

Looks awesome! Love the lights :thumb:
