I thought about doing that too as I am a fly-fisherman and know how to tie flies. I know I could match the hatch and have an ice fishing ultralight rod and reel. I just thought I would get flamed hard for trying to "hook my fish" (I would go "barbless)

Was that the frag I was eyeballing at RC that day? Glad I didn't pick one up as well, I'm sure my goldflake would love another "tasty treat". He's done the same with a bubble and a donut already.....could end up with a FOWLR at this rate:mrgreen:

How you like the Tunze's ?

Cut the ribbed end off the bottle, Makes the tunnel more invisible and you will have MUCH more luck!!!!! They seem to be more hesitant to enter with the ribbed end on. (Other than the stupid wrasses) Trust me trial and error after 5 days proves my method works! And try a mirror in the back as well. REALLY it makes a difference. Only I would only leave it in there if someone will be home - cuz I caught all my fish and had alot of catch and release to do!
Good luck!

just get him a tim hortons coffee and maybe a donut put it in there, and you'll get him in no time..:lol::lol::lol:

My bi-color is still in the tank:neutral: Admittedly I havnt been trying that hard to get him. There has and will be a couple large fish orders at the shop. To avoid any temptation to bring anything home I figured a full tank is best. I did a water change and glass clean today so while things are looking good I snapped a few pics.

Your right Ron! Perhaps a strawberry grouper? The order with the tunze products is finally arriving today (according to the trucking company), so hopefully I will be back in the tank today causing some major waves:mrgreen:. Little did my fish know that their New Years resolution is to loose weight by exercising more. More pics from yesterday.

Thanks Ron. I like prezzies too:biggrin: Never kept zoas before??? Not to worry about the zoas. They can take a while sometimes to settle in.

+1 on the jealousy of the ATO... wishing I had bought that instead of the Vertex skimmer on Boxing Day..

Everybody who has an osmolator says they love it, so to me it was the only one to go with. I didnt tackle the osmolator yet, I will hook that up tomorrow in better light.

I did get the nanostreams in. The original plan was to swap out the two visible koralias with the nanostreams, but I ended up leaving the K4 in the middle of the tank and put one Tunze on each end of the tank. 6600 gph  I didnt see a big difference in the flow, but when I plugged them in and put them on 100% the left side emergency drain started to trickle. So obviously more water is being pushed to that end of the tank than before. As I was tweaking the gate valves to get things balanced out in the overflows my skimmer started to overflow. So the increase in flow stirred up enough crud to cause the skimmer to go haywire(so much so, that I had to shut it off). I will play around with the different modes later. Im curious to see if the if the pulse mode will generate a wave or not with the other powerheads still going.

Heres a few more recent pics.

Im really impressed with the macro feature on my otherwise unimpressive point and shoot.

Man, there are some serious clam junkies here. I will get in the tank and snap a few more TD shots of the clams when the novelty of my new pumps wears of and I stop playing with them. Kevin ordered a millwaukee LUX light meter for the shop, so there is another toy I want to fiddle around with. It will be neat to see what the actual par readings are in the different areas in the tank. I still havnt got the ATO set up yet:redface:...to be honest the instructions confuse me. The translation between German and English is not so good. I read all the instructions for the nanostreams, controller and ATO at the same time and by the time I was done my brain hurt:mrgreen:. I will re-read the ATO instructions and maybe they will be a little clearer.

Oh... I almost forgot.... ROSIE!!!!:surprise: (bta) has returned from the dead:twised: Its been over a month since I thought she got chopped up by a powerhead. I removed as much of her as I could find but I guess I missed a spot. The increase in flow must have flushed her from where she was recovering. She looks very pale and isnt in a very good spot as far as light goes. I can however get to her to spot feed her. I have my fingers crossed that she will find a decent spot to settle down. Only thing now is, my tank( that I thought would never have one nem) now has two nems. Fortunately they are on opposite sides of the tank from each other atm and they are both BTAs, so if they do find each other they shouldnt fight....right? I may have said this before....nems is evil.

Glad to hear the RBTA is still kicking around. :)

Ultimately, two BTA's in a tank shouldn't be a problem. IME anyhow..

What model is your P&S underwater camera again?

I second the call for more top down clam shots

No point really....just a general observation:mrgreen: Didnt really plan to have two BTAs in the tank tho. I had my reservations about one:biggrin:

Catherine the camera is a pentax optio wpi. Mines a couple years old now but I think they still produce them.

My regal tang either suffered some kind of eye injury or has pop-eye:sad:. Ive done two large water changes this week in hopes of bringing my nitrates down a little(15). It looked a couple days ago like the swelling in it had gone down but it since has ballooned up again to where it looks like it about to explode. He doesnt seem to be visually impaired atm, still eats like a pig and is acting normally. Im not sure what else to do about it.

Delphinus 01-18-2009 05:26 AM

Sorry about his eye, I'm not sure what to suggest on that one. Medication maybe in a hospital tank? :(

As for the NO3, have you ever thought about using Taylor Aquatics Nitrate Destroyer?

Paverdude 01-18-2009 03:06 PM

Ok....nitrates wernt high( not that 15 is that terrible). The nitrate test kit I was using was a left over from the fresh water days. I picked up an API ( not the best I know but, no salifert so...) and it tested out twice at 0 (surprised me actually). So this leads me to believe the swelling is the result of an injury. I dont know if all regals are like this but mine does this "happy dance" after a feed where he rips around the tank in top speed bursts. He has made a couple sps frags for me this way so this is likely when it happened. Removing the tang for treatment would be a huge undertaking:neutral: Everything I read seems to suggest a week or two for a healing time. Its been a little over a week. I hate seeing him like this:sad:

fishytime 01-20-2009 04:39 AM

I finally got the tunze ato set up (after much head scratching over the instructions, or lack there of). I really like how it works. I had to break out the dremel and modify the trim on the inside of the sump to get the mounting bracket to sit correctly. Other than that, the tricky part was the clamp assembly on the mounting bracket. Better instructions would have helped big time here. They must have the same instruction design team as Ikea:mrgreen:.
I also added a second TLF phosban reactor to run carbon through. I had been running carbon in a media bag in a Aquaclear HOB filter on the sump but that was noisier than the entire system. I am gonna give the rowa-carbon a try.
Annnd I switched out another couple bulbs. I didnt like how yellow the geissmann midday bulb made the tank look so I swapped it out for a geissmann actinic+. I will know how I like it tomorrow as I made the switch after the lights went out tonight.
The regal isnt looking any better:neutral:

Heres some new TD clam shots for the junkies out there:razz:

Thanks guys. These wernt the first to go from that particular shipment. Catherine took first pick if I remember correctly. It didnt mater...there wasnt a "bad" clam in the entire shipment. Lance the maximas are 1 1/2" to 2" and the crocea is about 3". I have another green crocea that is about 5".

Most things Ive read about pop-eye say that it is rare that it effects only one eye??? Other than the swelling the eye appears to be normal. No milky or cloudy appearance. I think the swelling may be going down. It doesnt appear as puffy as yesterday.
