They look like Squamosas to me, but it's hard to say from the picture being so far away. Would be easiest to tell by seeing the bysal opening.
|
Squammies have really small bysal openings right?
|
This is the best I can do for you guys... kinda cliche these days, but sorry about the quality... phone pic! lol
BTW... whatever it is, it's easily my favorite clam so far. And for what it's worht, it looks exactly the same (shell and mantle) as the other clam that I have that I was told was a Squamosa... and it looks nothing like my Maxima. That said, please confirmn... I'd like to know! |
wow, looks great under your lights!!
|
Does look great. Patterning is indeed more typical of squamosa. As stated the true test is the byssal opening, squammies have them very small compared to maxima or crocea. Mantle and shell otherwise can be really similar looking.
Nice score! Man I hope some more of these pop up some day. |
Working on this supplier again, hopefully in about 3 weeks. Just after the Maximas.

When are the Maximas due Ken? Did you get the quantity you were looking for? |
The Cook Islands will be 5-6 short, but there will be enough for everyone currently asking, plus a few more.
I may be able to keep one in the store DT Ken |
