Oh the substrate (though hard to see, I'll get a picture tomorrow) is a mixture of a purple-y sand I picked up locally from a place called SIL industrial Minerals (a sandblasting company) and seachem Onyx (which is grain and has a much larger grain size). The mix was accidentally created in a 15g tank I have running, some of the old onyx did not get taken out, and I filled it with the new sand... found out it looks very natural so I went with it (as opposed to that ugly white sand people put in saltwater tanks :P) or black stuff, haha.

Sorry for rambling more.

Cheers,

Chris

But its toxic now... its been 'freshwaterfied' LOL.

( Actually I think it is beyond salvage... those tiles will NEVER come off, im convinced, after when one of the doors fell inside our dump trailer onto a metal lip and nothing broke, lol).

Here are some shots of the sandbed & other stuff.

I've added two other fish from other tanks, (Parachromis sp. "La Ceiba" and a pike cichlid [Crenicichla lenticulata, 'Rio Atabapo' variety]) These two are hiding right now.
Here is the first fish that I'd put in there on wednesday. Its an "Argentea" (Vieja argentea - unrelated to argentina). He is angry because I added fish to 'his' tank. He is 8.5" long.

And because i found this in one of my salt tanks... time to trim his hairdoo? Haha.

Added some more driftwood to the tank and a few pieces of 3 and 4" diam. PVC tubes for the fish to hide in (to break line of sight) and a few rocks.

Will be getting a light in the next couple weeks! Just kind of tossed a couple 30" Marina light fixtures over the tank for now.

Thanks for looking,

Chris

Lol I was just thinking about this... wouldn't it be sweet if you could 'move' as fast with a saltwater tank as a freshwater? Like I could have this fully stocked right now if I dropped some bio media in from another sump of mine but Im not in a SUPER big rush to stock the fish.. but I only got water in this (fully running) on monday morning, lol.

Who says you can't? I mean look at my nano

Funky_Fish14 05-22-2010 06:20 AM

Haha well ok I know you can do it... but its more touchy with saltwater than fresh :P

Lol I agree. You can't see the shame between the lines I posted.
