so while sitting at work on "light duties" ive been typing out all of our procedures for everything, just handed a bunch in (on a portable hard drive) and my boss asked me why there were so many spelling errors...
so i gave him 2 reasons...

1. i didn't realize spell check wasnt installed on word on my computer
2. i'm a fabricator, i cant even spell fabricator without spell-check

luckily firefox has built in spell check

At least he isn't an engineer, they know how to design it, build it, put it together but could not tell you how it works or what it does in simple laymen terms then wonder why we can't follow the simple 200 page instruction book

I deal with engineers all the time..........sure they can design it but that doesn't mean it can be built the way they think. Personally I think some of them need to work in the field for a couple yrs first before or during there schooling.

Yup I feel the same way I've ever only met one engineer in my 18 yrs in the pulp industry that came to the field operators and asked them how xx design would work and how accessible it old be for us he was a very popular engineer

Yep, 13 years in the framing industry and the engineers stuff works on their paper, but it won't work in the field and getting them to change it is like pulling teeth.

I am lucky that I deal with the same engineers all the time and when changes need to be made I make them and they have to adopt it to there prints. They have learned that after 20+ yrs doing what I do that sometime I am the smart one not them lol.

Stay clear..... this Bear bites off limbs!!

The ones I work with will make their own changes and ignore my suggestions... Then 2 months down the road when they realize their changes didn't work they change it to how I advised but they take the credit....

Speaking as an engineer I think all fabricators should have to go to engineering school. That way we'd all be able to communicate! It can be difficult sometimes to communicate the tolerances that need to be observed, processes that need to happen as designed etc.
