Geez the race is close 56 to 60 with a day or so to go . Again thanks to all that voted!
|
I am blown away at the growth rate of my purple death Palys, have been target feeding them brine shrimp when I feed the main tank and they have gone from 14 to 27 polyps over the span of a little over a month and a half!

Update
Well it's been a hectic last couple weeks but I'm very happy with the results, I decided to remove most of the livestock from my main tank, replace it with my zoas and then shut down the zoa tank. It was really hard to see most of it go but school has kept me busy so I think it's best for all.
Also managed to catch a 2.5" crab that I have been hunting for a while now . After removing the liverock/ coral I caught most of the fish and tried to reaquascape it as open as possible. Current fish: Pair of percs (1 Adult female Onyx and 1 male snowclown morph) Pair of Red long fin wrasses Yellow Tang Flash Gordon Tail Spot Blenny Potters Dwarf Angel Flame Back Dwarf Angel Pair of Fire Shrimp Pair of Cleaner Shrimp 4 Peppermints I will let the photos do most of the talking though, this is an old camera with wonky setting's so everything looks mushroom trip like: FTS http://img689.imageshack.us/img689/4518/dscf5004v.jpg http://img228.imageshack.us/img228/9674/dscf50380.jpg http://img574.imageshack.us/img574/7691/dscf5036.jpg http://img571.imageshack.us/img571/3601/dscf5007.jpg http://img227.imageshack.us/img227/738/dscf5013m.jpg Coral: http://img26.imageshack.us/img26/4025/dscf5029v.jpg http://img256.imageshack.us/img256/4042/dscf5011m.jpg http://img257.imageshack.us/img257/9304/dscf5002v.jpg Fish: http://img716.imageshack.us/img716/3584/dscf5034f.jpg http://img35.imageshack.us/img35/5992/dscf5027n.jpg http://img222.imageshack.us/img222/7479/dscf5012j.jpg http://img405.imageshack.us/img405/9105/dscf5009a.jpg http://img30.imageshack.us/img30/1039/dscf50280.jpg |
Interesting sort of step-up approach for the aquascaping. Nice work! Love those mangroves.
|
Thanks Tony! I found a large rock of those Bam Bam's that I was looking for, it looks a little haggard right now but if it gets better I will cut you a frag for the new tank.
|
Quote:
did you score the Bam Bams from us???....just wondering cuz I snipped a little frag of what I thought were Bam Bams but when I google it, what I got looks nothing like the pics |

I can't wait for everything to grow in at this point, I destroyed about 10 lbs of live rock and dumped it between the colonies which should make for some great growth. http://img526.imageshack.us/img526/4586/dscf5086l.jpg And a few randoms: http://img827.imageshack.us/img827/1276/dscf50620.jpg http://img526.imageshack.us/img526/2824/dscf5067.jpg http://img823.imageshack.us/img823/3388/dscf5073.jpg http://img576.imageshack.us/img576/7113/dscf5080e.jpg http://img163.imageshack.us/img163/2307/dscf5068f.jpg One of my favorites: http://img684.imageshack.us/img684/5011/dscf5082z.jpg |
I've gone from feeding 8+ cubes of frozen per feeding to 1 and that's still a bit much. Good bye nitrates .
|
So are you keeping this tank? maybe add a bit more rock?

Looks great. How do you manage to study and stuff in that pad? If it were me there would be way too many distractions. Must ... integrate .. second order differentials .... oooh pretty red polyps! *3 hours later* Must .. integrate ... second order differentials ....... oooh a featherduster! *many hours later* I should really start this essay. Hello fishy fishy!

Some new photos of Flash Gordon, after having a bunch of people over I'm not 100% on the orange socket tang ID anyone have any other suggestions? He's constantly changing color from black to white and has the craziest silver lines when he's angry.

The pretty red polyps are pretty nice . |
The tang looks like Acanthurus blochii, Tailring Surgeon
Try this link. http://www.fishbase.org/summary/spec...ry.php?id=4750 |
I've wondered that myself a couple times. I'm not sure though, the ones I've seen had had more blue but it's hard to tell since the differences could be because of juvenile colouration or something like that (or lighting/camera/etc stuff).
Some pictures of blochii I took earlier this year: http://lh6.ggpht.com/_ujFD9DxsrV8/S6...0/IMG_0456.JPG http://lh4.ggpht.com/_ujFD9DxsrV8/S6...0/IMG_0461.JPG If it helps cinch an ID.. |
Thanks for the suggestions guys, I guess I will have to wait for him to mature a bit more before I really take a swing at the ID.
That being said I would be ecstatic if he turned out like your photos Tony, what a magnificent looking fish! I would think this is the juvi ring tail: http://img691.imageshack.us/img691/3628/fishyfishy.jpg VS http://img227.imageshack.us/img227/8158/p1140693.jpg They certainly look similar but its not 100%. Maybe I have some sort of ring tail hybrid? Anyone have any good books for fish IDing lying around? On another note I boxed in my sump as the noise from my new skimmer was bugging me. I didn't want to spend a bunch of money so I went as cheap as possible. 1/2"thick pink insulating Styrofoam cut, spray painted black and affixed to the stand with velcro cost me just over $50.00 for all the supplies. Stupid cat's are now using the stand as a scratching post... At least there not peeing on it. |
Quote:
I may have to steal this idea for mine as well. Skimmer is pretty noisy too. As for the cats, just give them time. They just don't like it enough yet. |

Couple new actinic photos: http://img707.imageshack.us/img707/2013/p1140737l.jpg http://img109.imageshack.us/img109/2016/p1140738.jpg Top downs: http://img600.imageshack.us/img600/9384/p1140708.jpg http://img256.imageshack.us/img256/2395/p1140710.jpg http://img253.imageshack.us/img253/3081/p1140727.jpg http://img697.imageshack.us/img697/9899/p1140729i.jpg I picked up a new colony that I have never seen before today, I thought it was magicians but I'm almost positive it's a zoa because of the size. Magician palys are like 4 times the size of these little guys, there the red ones located in the top of the photo. http://img192.imageshack.us/img192/5117/p1140734.jpg |
New colony opened up pretty quick, here are some day light shots. They look exactly like magicians just 1/4th the size.
http://img30.imageshack.us/img30/2262/p1140744m.jpg http://img602.imageshack.us/img602/382/p1140740.jpg |
Don't think those are Magicians. Look definetly like a Zoa , a very nice one at that. Also don't reca;; anything likre that on Zoa Id.

I'm stumped for an ID also, maybe its time to make up a name . Got a few new corals and a lambouti wrasse on sale today.

Thanks Mike.
I have a serious problem when it comes to moving everything around, I think I like this new scape so I have a New Years resolution to not move it. I have decided to remove most of my remaining LPS and go back to the twigs (My Red Planet just looks so loonnlleeyyyyy ). FTS: http://img826.imageshack.us/img826/500/p1140773.jpg Anyone any an ID on this nem, the store didn't know for sure. http://img26.imageshack.us/img26/2010/p1140771.jpg Some randoms: http://img585.imageshack.us/img585/7538/p1140785.jpg http://img210.imageshack.us/img210/2804/p1140784.jpg http://img824.imageshack.us/img824/2197/p1140775n.jpg http://img821.imageshack.us/img821/1162/p1140792.jpg http://img156.imageshack.us/img156/9181/p1140791.jpg |
Pssst! Regarding those sweet new Zoas, you mention size in relation to Paly vs Zoa - that is not a reliable way to ID. Easiest way to ID is texture, Palys feel like fine sandpaper, and Zoas will be smooth. Either way, nice Zoas!
Oh, and Flower Anemone or close relative? |
Quote:
I can't find any comparable photos of a Red Flower Anemone on google, the tenticals look a fair bit different than everything out there. |
Wow, whatever it is, it's nifty, I like it. Was that the only one?

It stings? Ooooo, lemme try! That's how I got stung by a Pacific Sea Nettle. They are the only Jellyfish in ocean near Vancouver Island that actually sting...not that I'd know. ;) |

Anyone have any insight for influencing my clowns to host? Ken @ Blue world said I should use a clay pot but they completely ignored it and continue to host on silicone. Wont touch the pulsing xenia, Mushrooms or 3 different types of nems. My bro is heading to Thailand and picked up a new Cannon, really excited to learn how to use it but here are some quick shots. http://img263.imageshack.us/img263/6456/img3228xk.jpg http://img34.imageshack.us/img34/7637/img3268y.jpg http://img254.imageshack.us/img254/1423/img3260a.jpg http://img510.imageshack.us/img510/1466/img3173.jpg http://img43.imageshack.us/img43/2686/img3211f.jpg http://img291.imageshack.us/img291/1193/img3206h.jpg http://img600.imageshack.us/img600/7537/img3171d.jpg http://img21.imageshack.us/img21/9553/img3235k.jpg |

Wow pics with the new camera def look nicer man.
I'm so envious of ppl able to keep zoas happy. All my params seem to be in order...sps doing really well...zoas love to melt away on me. I have a few patches doing ok but it's frustrating. The larger the colony introduced the better luck I have but even then it's not been a garantee. Regardless...lemme know when those frags are ready =) |
