There will be no more upgrades for some time this one has really taken it out of me. Plus the wife would never go for it, I was lucky to be able to do this one.

lockrookie 04-12-2010 05:54 PM

The Grizz 04-13-2010 02:50 AM

So I got the tank and sump filled completely tonight, both skimmer's are running as well as the return pump. Have not kicked in the closed loop on the advise of Paul from Ocean Motion.

The problem I am seeing now is micro bubble's coming out of the returns into the tank. Any idea's out there of what might be the cause?

Skimmerking 04-13-2010 03:00 AM

you probably have a hole some where Grizz causing a suction of air. that is why i love my internal pumps

Chase31 04-13-2010 03:27 AM

just got to take a look at the pics, and that guy with the rough riders cap on.... did he just show up unexpectedly, just an extra? haha i love the sask jokes

I don't know, I can't seem to find anything. Every thing look good in the sump but when it is coming out if the return it is full of micro bubble's

No he didn't just show up, he is a buddy of my step-son's and the only one that showed up on time other then Josh who was first to arrive for the move.

lockrookie 04-13-2010 04:11 AM

it just might take a day or so for little air pockets to dissapate or you said the skimers are running maybe its coming from that direction?

The sump looks clear after the skimmers but I have to add my carbon pouches into the skimmer boxes I built.

Doug 04-13-2010 11:44 AM

Looking good. Some great pics there and expressions.

The Grizz 04-13-2010 01:40 PM

Well the tank has been running now for 12 hrs now and still seeing micro bubbles coming out of the returns and I am still baffled as to what is causing it.

belzebuth 04-13-2010 02:46 PM

I also had this problem when setting up the tank... I could not figure out where the microbubbles came from, then we found out tiny pin holes in some of the plumbing.

lockrookie 04-13-2010 03:58 PM

time to bring out the duct tape :) i hope its not all of the plumbing but you could try wrapping it a bit at a time and see if that is what it is im not sure what else you could do

There really is not that much plumbing to check for the return, the duct tape was exactly what I was thinking

The Grizz 04-14-2010 02:08 AM

Well i found the air leak with a little help from Terry (marine apprentice) & Josh (bauder1986). It was a very small leak in the bulkhead nipple connected to the union on the feed side of the return pump. So now the tank is nice and clear, no more micro bubble's.

Here are a few pic's, have not finished the rock work yet but have tested all my water parameter's and everything is 100%. It really helped that 80% of the water in the new tank was from the old tank and the rock went from the old tank directly to the temp tank and then to the new tank.

Only one skimmer running at the moment as the feed pump that I was given with the tank make a lot of noise and need to get a new one. Also going to put in my PhosBan Reactor's tomorrow. Only one set of light's are on the tank, once I get every thing back into the tank I will move the other light, change a few bulb's and set the timer's.

kien 04-14-2010 02:37 AM

lockrookie 04-14-2010 03:44 AM

glad you found the problem.. should be easy sailing from here on out

The Grizz 04-14-2010 09:05 PM

All tank inhabitant's are now back in and seem to be loving it. Light's are great with the bulbs that I have but will be changing a few soon. Pic's to come real soon.

The Grizz 04-15-2010 02:53 AM

A couple of picture's with inhabitants moved in.

Thanks Lance and Reef_surfer. Hope to get a couple more fish for the tank soon, would like to get a Naso Tang, Powder Blue Tang and a Koran Angel.

lockrookie 04-15-2010 03:51 AM

be careful with the koran angel with lps/ clams made that mistake ate $75 worth of corals and thankfully the brain survived.

The Grizz 04-15-2010 04:36 AM

Ya I have heard that, so I am going to look for a small juvi and give it a try. If it doesn't work out then it will end up in my FOWLR tank.

Sebae again 04-15-2010 05:17 AM

AWESOME job ! Set up has a nice sleek look to it.I bet your fish are lovin it.

superduperwesman 04-15-2010 05:39 AM

Looks Good

The Grizz 04-17-2010 03:47 AM

Well I kicked in the closed loop tonight......how do you say.....SAND STORM!!! Was not impressed to say the least, so I turned the flow's down on all the returns to the point that the sand was not flying around. Might have to experiment with the height of the returns.

bauder1986 04-17-2010 03:51 AM

im gonna say that an extra 3 inches up should do it....thats my guess.

That is kind of what I was thinking of as well.

the marine apprentice 04-17-2010 04:04 AM

Can you say I told ya so hahahaha. Just buggin ya buddy

The Grizz 04-17-2010 04:09 AM

I lifted them up 1 1/2" before I kicked it in, so hopefully another 1 1/2" will do it.

Delphinus 04-17-2010 04:24 AM

Something else to keep in mind, if it's new sand, it will need a little while to get coated in bacteria and then it won't fly around as much.

Hey Tony, it is not new sand, it was the sand from the bow front but I did give it a nice rinse.
