They look awesome Marie! I hope they do well! (if you can keep an Achilles happy...this should be a piece of cake!)

The fish or the coral?

marie 06-10-2009 04:56 AM

It's been 24hrs and so far they are still getting along, a bit of chasing but the smaller is showing all the proper submissive posturing so it looks good.

Playing cupid is very nerve wracking when you can't tell the difference between male and female...if only they could talk

Delphinus 06-10-2009 05:29 AM

Pair looks nice. I've heard of keeping them in small shoals too, but I wonder if it'd be better to do a more species setup then. I kind of like the pair idea myself. Had a pair of flames for a while, in those there is a difference in the tail in the amount of blue that's different between M&F, but it doesn't show up until at least 3" or more apparently. Good luck with the pairing, hopefully it works out. :)

marie 06-17-2009 02:19 AM

I decided not to risk my other fish and I am treating the potters with cupramine in a 20g hospital tank. For those that are on the fence about quarantining and treating, it is really a very easy process and doesn't take up much equipment

The fish hate it but they will get over it in time

Oh and for any mods reading this...this thread should probably be in the tank journal forum not here in the pics forum. If you don't mind moving it please

Skimmerking 06-17-2009 03:06 AM

wow marie they look amazing, how did you get them as a pair or sex them up, how do you tell them apart i cant

You have to ask them nicely  .

It was pure luck on my part that they are getting along but from the research i've done, making sure 1 is a lot smaller then the other betters your chances that they will pair up

Delphinus 06-17-2009 03:55 AM

May have missed this but why are you treating them, are they showing signs of something or are you just hedging your bets at this point?

They did have a bit of ick but mostly I just don't want to risk Doofus at this point.

I do have ich in the display but the fish there are mostly immune to it and I haven't seen any signs of it in months. By introducing a new strain of ich I could end up with a mess.

fishytime 06-17-2009 04:10 AM

Great pair Marie....um the fish I mean:mrgreen:....Probably the smart thing to do, treating them....I wouldnt wanna risk Doofus either...I still get a giggle when I watch the vid of Doofus playing in the PH.

Yea he does, usually every evening. He makes it look so effortless you hardly notice he's not right side up

marie 07-03-2009 03:20 AM

An update on the potters angels, after they finished their 2 weeks of cupramine treatment on sat I did a 100% water change, let them recover for a couple of days and then added them to the display on tues afternoon after the lights came on. Amazingly they settled in right away and the rest of the crew treated them like they had always been there.

fishytime 07-03-2009 03:35 AM

Thats great news Marie.... any pics? Ive always wanted a potters myself

I haven't got any good pics, for some reason while they get along great with their new tank mates they're still pretty po'd at me...you think they could show a little bit of gratitude for saving them from the 20g with dubious water quality and placing them in a wonderful new home
This is the best one

Doofus was doing a particularly nice upside ballet tonight but by the time I had the camera he had pretty much quit...Oh well here's the video I took of the tank anyway

Chaloupa 07-07-2009 05:07 AM

AWESOME...freakin awesome!

Snappy 07-07-2009 05:10 AM

Very nice Marie, your tank looks great.

PoonTang 07-07-2009 05:58 AM

Your corals are massive and beautiful!!!

Lance 07-07-2009 07:00 PM

Very Nice Marie. As always.

lastlight 07-07-2009 07:11 PM

That middle pile of rocks/coral really adds a nice dynamic to the mix in my opinion. Some of those colonies are getting massive...looks great =)

fishytime 07-07-2009 11:31 PM

Someday....*daydreams of the time when my colonies are as impressive as Marie's....then realize I need a bigger tank and snap out of it*...

christyf5 07-08-2009 01:02 AM

Gorgeous Marie, I can't believe how much some of your corals have grown since I was there!!

PoonTang 07-08-2009 01:05 AM

LOL what happened? Your rear glass looks "relatively" clean. Are your corals finally choking out your coraline?? :)

marie 07-08-2009 01:16 AM

The coralline is still growing as fast as ever but there is something in my tank eating it. I know for sure its not my tuxedo urchin so I must have a hitchhiker I didn't know about

Tom R 07-08-2009 02:05 AM

As always your tank is looking great.

Tom R

lorenz0 07-08-2009 05:27 AM

those colonies are amazing. true example of a nicely mature tank

marie 07-11-2009 04:33 AM

 Both potters angels are coral nippers... maybe I'll just call my tank "a fowlc" (fish only with live corals)

BlueAbyss 07-11-2009 08:01 AM

Ouch that sucks about the angels. They are beautiful... but really, could they do much damage with that much gorgeous coral in the tank? I mean, they'd have to do an awful lot of nipping

Your tank is amazing and an inspiration. The video was awesome, thanks for sharing!

christyf5 07-30-2009 08:42 PM

Marie, we need more pics. My tank is too depressing to look at so I'm using yours as a crutch to keep me interested in this hobby

Lets see those beautiful big colonies, oh and doofus of course

marie 07-30-2009 10:27 PM

Might have to wait a bit for pics, the lights are out during the day right now because my living room is under going major renovations...hopefully the tank survives it

Tom R 07-30-2009 10:43 PM

I thought that your living room could us a reno.
Are you going to Theater Seating 3 or 4 rows deep with camera tripod mounts and drink holder on each seat?

You didn't like the 70's wood panel look :surprise:

The other day I noticed one of my big acro colonies is missing some tissue, doesn't appear to be rtn but I'm keeping a close eye to make sure it doesn't spread...not that there's a lot I could do if it did decide to spread :frown:

fishytime 08-02-2009 03:46 AM

You could take it out and crazy glue it....worked for me on a couple occasions.
