That Crab was HUGE. It's one craw was the size of my hand

I was having a hard time taking one with your hand there for perspective, after 3 or 4 attempts this is the only half decent one. It doesn't quite show the size of that thing. it was freaking huge, about the size of pumpkin.

Nice pics. Where were they taken ? Was the crab invited to dinner ?

We just returned from a 4 day vacation at Parksville and I did dives 2 and 3 on my way to my NAUI certification at Tyee Cove. I was totally blown away by the diversity of life! We saw stars of all colors and sizes, rock fish, anemones, some sort of jelly fish and cucumbers. We were planning on doing dives 4 and 5 at Madrona Point, but the weather was not great so I will be completing my certification in Mexico. But we plan on making yearly trips back to the Island and do many more dives.

Mmmm, Madrona point. I hung out there well before that place had houses on it. I'm glad the very tip was left as public access.
Ever dived off Hornby? Supposedly there's a spot off Hornby you can find six-gill sharks, one spot out of very few outside tropical waters. |
Six gills haven't been seen at Hornby for a couple of years. Don't know why. They are diving in Barkly sound now for Six Gills. Whytecliff park in West Vancouver had a reported white gill sighting a couple of weeks ago.
These dives where done at Tilly point off Pender Island. J |
Hey, I just returned from St. Thomas, Dominica, Barbados, St. Lucia, Antigua, St. Kitts and Puerto Rico and I got a chance to dive them all. I'm going through the pics right now, all 1800 between my above and below water cameras.....I know I know I have some serious issues. I'll try to find a few to post.

There is nothing wrong with 1800 pictures for a holiday.
looking forward to them all. |

Your far too kind Greg, unfortunately these pics were more of a challenge.
I was just about to post the St. Thomas pics this morning before I went out for the day but something happend.....gone...:twised:  Anyway it was a cruise out of San Juan Puerto Rico and after that stayed in PR for another 4 days. The visibility this time of year is not great, it was mostly overcast and a bit silty reducing vis to around 50' at some locations. Since it was a cruise you don't get the best dive sites at a paticular location but I made the best of it. Here are the St. Thomas pics and I just got the call from work and I have to leave in the morning for a few days so the rest will come later. The first dive site was a reef the second was some old US Army barges that the troops were housed in and were sunk in the bay after they were not needed. http://www.zld.ca/boating-diving/IMG_0241.JPG http://www.zld.ca/boating-diving/IMG_0249.JPG http://www.zld.ca/boating-diving/IMG_0256.JPG http://www.zld.ca/boating-diving/IMG_0265.JPG http://www.zld.ca/boating-diving/IMG_0266.JPG http://www.zld.ca/boating-diving/IMG_0267.JPG http://www.zld.ca/boating-diving/IMG_0269.JPG http://www.zld.ca/boating-diving/IMG_0270.JPG http://www.zld.ca/boating-diving/IMG_0286.JPG http://www.zld.ca/boating-diving/IMG_0291.JPG http://www.zld.ca/boating-diving/IMG_0292.JPG http://www.zld.ca/boating-diving/IMG_0293.JPG |
