Guess I have been here to long to change. Just an old fart. Guess us old ones had better move aside for new staff, that can make dramatic changes in the board. Oh yea, of course one would need to get that past the owner first.

Personally I think you are doing a good job. Sometimes people on here as in everyday life are annoying (I'm sure myself included at times) and things being said are going to spark emotions. I don't know to many people who haven't crossed the line at some point in their life or at least come a little to close to it. Face it I usually can tell when I have done this is, so I'm sure others can as well. That is why we have mods to keep us in line, kind of like a principal at school but with a better sense of humor  There are of course politer ways to disagree with one another but there are times when you know you could/should of but just don't want to.

Ill say that i think that this particular board is the best one around. well managed and well looked after. i doubt very much that new members want to join into canreef to be harassed without some kind of guardian angel over them.

if we wanted a board without mods, then NR is just a click away. I do frequent NR, because i dont mind it too much, but if it were up to me, I would keep canreef just the way it is now.

as fishoholic pointed out, sometimes we just spew garbage, if we dont think. ...or even if we DO think and just decide to do it anyways. Im guilty of it. Im sure most of us are, and Im not terribly proud of it. I think dealing with disagreements in a civilised manner (PM or otherwise) is not a gut wrenchingly difficult thing to do and if we aren't capable of it... well, like i said, NR is a great place to vent.

I mod another fish board & for those who've never done it, let me tell you that it is generally a thankless job because it is impossible to please everyone. If you mod & edit someone's post, they'll often get mad at you & cry "Censorship!" However, if you don't, then you'll have other members mad at you for not doing your job & keeping the board clean or not enforcing the rules.

I personally think the mods at Canreef have been doing a very good job & should be commended for their willingness to volunteer their time. Mods become mods not for the "power" as some people seem to think, but it's because they love this hobby & have a passion for it & for their "home" board.

Any time I've had a disagreement or other concern, the mods here have been more than willing to discuss the situation. So thank you all for being willing to step up & help this community with your valuable service.

Personally, my pet peeve is people who think that the internet's anonymousness can allow them to become cyber-bullies & write offensive things that they would never dream of saying to the member in person. The mods here have been very good at stopping that sort of behaviour.

Keep up the good work.

Anthony

Thanks for all the good comments and support. Believe me, its appreciated by the staff. Well said Anthony. We are just aquarists, trying to help keep our great "aquarium" board on track. And speaking for myself, I have been in a few heated debates over the years, on various boards, so I dont speak from some kind of "holier" staff position. :D

I still have trouble understanding some of the problems we have on aquarium boards, mostly over off topic discussions. Thats not the main purpose of this board. As others said above, there are boards for that and lounge,s on certain reef boards where you enter at your own risk.

Why would one not go there and argue if thats their wish.

does this mean it is ok for us to use profanity as long as we us"$" instead of the letter"S"

pretty sure we are all old enough to figure out what it means

 Unbelievable. Fine, I edited out all reference,s to that "word". I,m tired of arguing.

And I wish this thread to still remain open for the sake of constructive discussions.

I think there are a lot of people that like to argue simply for the sake of arguing.

I agree and I may be one of them. But the correct boards should be used for that particular purpose.

Let us, for a moment, consider the title of this thread.

It's ironic (but perhaps should have been expected) that this thread proved the very point the original poster was trying to make!

Let's all simmer. Step back a bit.

A good mod is like good referee. At the end of the game you shouldn't have even noticed him/her being there. We are all (most anyway) adults and really don't need to be treated as school kids or even worse needing a babysitter as was previously mentioned.
