Those are incredible specimens there man http://smileys.on-my-web.com/reposit...prised-004.gif

and I think you were being modest about your growth.....I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong but I don't get that much with dosing. How ever I've changed a few things over the last few months and do believe I'm experiencing a growth spurt.

Sorry, I know I've asked you before (I'm thinking of changing mine) but what bulbs are you running again?

the birdsnest, superman and millipora went in the tank probably too soon but a month or two after the tank re-start.....the strawberry shortcake was added about 14 monthes ago.....

thanks Chris!
I suppose it's all relative.....when I was dosing the sps grew like weeds.....the growth has been noticeably slowed to me....Im not sure there is a wrong or right....I really think that if you are just slow about adding your fish, you have good live rock(Im really not a fan of dry rock) and things are relatively stable, that goes a long way....

my bulb mix is a 50/50 split of KZ "new gens" and KZ "super blues"....2x 3' teks with 6 bulbs each for a total of 12 bulbs

Myka 04-11-2012 02:07 PM

Love the time lapse photos! When was V2 started? I looked at page 1 and that was V1 build I think.

Your strawberry is gorgeous doug good job with that! Mine doesn't even look like the same coral if I look at the actual shape/structure of it. It's also always been a very pale pink. I'm thinking of finally snapping a chunk off to see what happens. Yours makes me drool every time I see it.

I will accept your kudos for a job well done.....even though all I did really was glue it down and do water changes.....but ya, thanks!..... well I showed yous mine, why dont you show us yours?.....I find it neat how the same coral can look different in different tanks....even things like growth patterns and branch thickness can be slightly different.....makes identifying really fun:mrgreen:

thanks Greg....it's actually done better than what the pic shows....I had to re-arrange the rock recently to get a fish out....the rest of it is on another rock somewhere....Im stoked that its done so well.....funny story about this coral....when you got it in I hadnt seen one in town in ages, so of course I jumped on it and snapped up .....two weeks later we got a massive piece of it at RC....I was like doh!....oh well....I kinda like watching them grow from frags a little better anyway...

ya it has gone through a bit of an evolution....I can remember thinking for the first few monthes I had it, "what the F did I buy this frugly brown blob for?".....glad I didnt ditch it.....it's not the most flamboyant piece in the tank but it is neat in its own way.....

Stunning there man!

I just got a small colony of RedPlanet yesterday....and was wondering how far below your lights you have yours to get the coloring (I have very similar lighting)
What kind of flow do you have it in?

Thanx, Chris

One of those unknown blue acros you sold me initially turned brownish and now the tips are turning bright green. You just never know what your coral is going to do in a different tank and over time.

thank Chris..... ATM its sitting on my frag rack which is on one side pane of the tank, right at the tippy top of the tank.....as for flow.....well.....there is over 10000gph of turnover in the tank and the frag rack is sitting about 3" above a MP40....the frag rack actually vibrates

thanks man.... the growth sequences are both fun and a PITA to do (gotta go search through hundreds of pics to find what I need)....ya the first thing I do when I get a new coral is take pics of it....even if its not looking so hot....this way I can A) show off a new coral and 2) track how it has done in my system

I didnt have much room before either.....but a bunch of my coral went on its northern migration which freed up a bunch of space in the 25g..... at $25 a nem and one blue and another blueish one, I just couldnt walk away empty handed.....Laurie's a sucker for maxi-minis so I will likely give them to her for her collection

DCDN 05-15-2012 05:40 AM

Well I'm sure you'll have plenty of room once you finish filling up the new tank

While that may be true, I have a strict "no nem" rule for my big tanks..... After having one BTA turn into dozens in V1, no nem will make it anywhere near my SPS

fishytime 05-22-2012 02:23 AM

bittersweet feeling ATM.....Laurie was in town for the long weekend and we had a great w/e....zoo, fish stores, shopping and visiting my family and then I tore down the small tank and sent everything left in the tank with Laurie, to Edmonton....I still had a couple wee small tuxedo urchins, 4 maxi mini nems, some ricordia, three feather dusters, my clash of the titans favia, a dozen assorted snails, 2 pom pom crabs, a sexy shrimp, 2 trimma gobies, a chromis, a starry blenny, a pygmy possum wrasse and my blue assessor....the mass exodus has begun.....very strange to see the tank sitting empty.....sounds like everything has made the trip ok,(Laurie is acclimating and placing stuff as I type this) so that is good......now its just the big tank that needs to be moved......gosh this moving tanks three hours away to a different city is stressful:neutral:......

gregzz4 05-22-2012 02:38 AM

I hear ya. Tearing tanks down and moving are not fun things on their own - combined is a lot to deal with
You'll be OK once you make the final move and are able to focus on your new environment

well the last move I did of this tank was a complete disaster, I sure hope you guys are right:lol:.....Ive been try to move things up there in small doses and so for the strategy has worked out (for the most part)......

the small tank is completely shut down and all the parts are cleaned and ready to be moved.....all of my SPS will be making the move this w/e.....this makes me nervous.....they have to make the bagging process and then the three hour drive to Red Coral E-town, where they will be babysat by Steve until the big tank is ready for them (thanks again Steve!) .....

It was a fun weekend, must say though I didn't think it would take 3 hours to acclimate and move over all your fish, inverts and coral into my tanks once I got home. Glad that's over with and they are all doing well.
