Lookin' good Christy!

Been awhile since I updated so I thought I'd post.

Pruned out the orange digitata and every other piece of digitata I could get out of there. I had a blue one that wasn't as bad as the orange but was coming in a close second. Even now, 2 months later I see bits of it popping up again  I also removed a few smallish pieces that either weren't doing it for me or were starting to encroach on corals that I liked more. I think I removed about 4 colonies or so. Maybe 5. I can't remember, it was enough to get me a clam and some mysis from the LFS

The tank has had its various issues from either me not spending enough time on it or spending too much time on it (rather trying to do too much too fast I suppose). Various corals located mid tank started receeding at the tips for whatever reason. At the time I was dosing potassium so I stopped. Then I thought it might be the way I was feeding (thaw frozen cube in water, dump in tank which then turned into thaw some of large block in water, dump in tank) which was causing temperature issues and tissue recession. Anyway, I stopped that too and am noticing now that things are starting to turn around for most corals but my turaki isn't having any of it. Its mad and the algae has taken hold.

I managed to get a small frag off it before the algae really set in but I've noticed its having a bit of a rough time too. I can't decide whether to turf the colony or leave it in there and let it duke it out with the algae. I guess as long as it doesn't spread its probably ok to leave it in there.

Another coral, a tricolor, is starting to grow tissue over the affected parts, you can see its still fighting the algae which I'm guessing is some sort of cyano.

In other news my skimmer wouldn't restart after tank maintenance day. The impeller magnet had burst and wasn't looking pretty. Could be the source of my algae woes??

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...1/IMG_0173.jpg

I'd like to think thats the cause of my problems but I highly doubt it. I'm just really good at growing algae  I did discover that the Sedra 9000 and EuroReef SP5 impellers are exactly the same only about a $50 price difference with shipping. Sedra is white, ER is black.

Bought a new squamosa awhile ago. Couldn't say how much awhile, I thought it was a couple weeks, could be a couple months. Time is a mystery for me these days. I still don't understand how it goes so slowly while I'm at work and so fast when I'm home and on weekends

Why I can never remove my frag racks:

The other one is encrusted in superman digitata (no pic). Damned thing grows faster on that rack than it does anywhere else

Sorry to hear about the algae woes. The rest of the corals sure seem ok to me. This one... wow I love:

Nice stuff Christy.

Snapped a few shots of the tank tonight. No sense in talking about the tank as it looks like crud and I have nothing nice to say about it, hence the macros and FTS from a distance

And finally, my cool new toy. Its called "The Portal". Does a fantastic job of magnifying all of my corals so I can see what they're doing. I find it absolutely fascinating to watch everything up close

Your tank looks good! Even if it looks like crud. Lots of pretty crud !

hillegom 02-19-2012 04:00 AM

all right
I'll bite
how much was the portal and where did you buy it

kien 02-19-2012 04:05 AM

And does the portal allow you to see an augmented reality on the other side ? I could use one of those!

Mrfish55 02-19-2012 04:05 AM

Looks good to me, you have some nice pieces there.
