Tank and photos look great bud
I bet that tang is just making the chromis feel comfortable around him so that when he grows up they won't run away when he goes to eat them :twised:  |
Quote:
I wished the tang and other inhabitants lived long enough :( Only the foxface and the four chromis survived the outbreak :( |

I've not been on Canreef as much as normal lately |

Wow, that's really crappy
Do you still have the 20g ? Might make a great QT ... for both you and your room-mate :boink: |

THE LAST UPDATE PART 1
Well since everyone is updating their journal, I thought "WHY NOT" :)
TANK BREAK DOWN Yes, I will be temporarily breaking this tank down (2 weeks) because of the move. I will have to leave my current house on 31st Aug and the new apartment will be ready on 10th Sept (property manager is going to renovate the unit). I have planned to prepare a tote at my sister's place and transfer all the livestocks over there for 10 days. Will cut down the lighting from 12hours to possibly 6 so the corals are stunted for that period (would be a PITA to dose the tote), put the powerhead and the heater to keep the things alive. I am expecting some die offs but oh well, nothing to do. This is going to be the last update from this house :) So enjoy ;) NEW SKIMMER: Well the Bubble Mangus curve 7 is KICKING! The cup is huge. Fills half the way every two weeks and the skimmate is just GROSS! Fills the whole toilet with fish poo smell after I clean it. Damn! So much for "expensive" skimmers vs "Chinese" skimmers. Prodibio: I started prodibio program. Unfortunately, I haven't seen much on the way (been like 8 weeks or something); still have to clean the glass every 3/4 days despite having just 5 fishes (fox face + 4 chromis) in the tank. But nutrients remain undetected. I am not giving up on it; probably will take some more time. Ich outbreak: Well hopefully the tank has recovered from the outbreak. Foxface and four chromis survived. Didn't add anything afterwards. Light: Along with the four bulb T5 fixture, I added two more bulbs, making 6 T5s in total. Corals are loving it :) My "green" red planet turned red and is growing crazy. Dosing: My tank is already loose 1.3dkh every day (still couldn't figure out the calcium). Have been dosing c-balance part B (and occasional part A) to the tank. Yes, I personally don't like Randy's two part recipe (no offence to Randy; he is the chemistry guru after all). I just feel like just adding Ca+ and CO3- ions to the salt don't do enough, what about the other ions? Those are present in very limited amount compared to the big three and I always wonder how much would a 10% WC every week/two add to that while Ca/Alk is being depleted on a daily basis? What about the expense? Well, I try to cut down cost on things that are "not required" to be expensive (mp40 vs wp40) and add things that I feel are more important to be expensive (salt and additives). That's how my mind works :) Maintenance: Well the tank has been literally maintenance free for the past month or so. I only do 10gallon WC every two weeks. No problem of algae other that scrubbing the glass every 2/3 days. And I don't have to keep on making my hands wet :P Pictures: I don't know why but corals always look so much better from top than through the glass. Here are some pictures I took today. Some of them are in awkward locations and don't wanna risk me falling off the chair (I am a heavy guy ). Turned on the lights so the corals were not in their full glory. But the SPS are doing really well. :) http://i1304.photobucket.com/albums/...ps09097700.jpg http://i1304.photobucket.com/albums/...psd51fa8cb.jpg http://i1304.photobucket.com/albums/...ps8ff9d8d8.jpg http://i1304.photobucket.com/albums/...ps0c9f7946.jpg http://i1304.photobucket.com/albums/...ps49dea44d.jpg http://i1304.photobucket.com/albums/...ps1cc586bc.jpg http://i1304.photobucket.com/albums/...ps473048bf.jpg http://i1304.photobucket.com/albums/...psa9ed1d6a.jpg http://i1304.photobucket.com/albums/...pscf8515ef.jpg http://i1304.photobucket.com/albums/...ps16a9020b.jpg http://i1304.photobucket.com/albums/...ps53b381da.jpg http://i1304.photobucket.com/albums/...psf008f3fb.jpg http://i1304.photobucket.com/albums/...ps184a31db.jpg http://i1304.photobucket.com/albums/...ps8914f091.jpg http://i1304.photobucket.com/albums/...ps9efdf7fd.jpg http://i1304.photobucket.com/albums/...ps2f29b511.jpg http://i1304.photobucket.com/albums/...psc065688f.jpg http://i1304.photobucket.com/albums/...ps27d8826e.jpg http://i1304.photobucket.com/albums/...ps3e312fda.jpg http://i1304.photobucket.com/albums/...psbcd1606a.jpg |

Hope you guys enjoyed my updates in this thread. Stay tuned for the new build (or more like rebuild ). |
Nice pics Raied.
Hope you got no delays. Sucks staring into a tote! |
Your corals all look great hopefully they deal with the transfer without issues. Your setosa is big!
|
Good luck with the move, Everything looks really good now

Sounds bittersweet for sure. Good luck with the move. Sounds like a win-win for everyone though.

Looks good.
How many corals died off after living in a bucket for a few weeks? |
Quote:
Well, honestly I was really surprised about how many corals survived. More or less every SPS survived other than some. Few of the zoas were "lost". I would say about 70% of the corals survived. Most of them even retained their colors. So much for "SPS are hard to keep" ;) |
Welcome back! So when are you switching to LEDs ?
|
Quote:
Um....I was planning for some time after 5 years....or possibly after the big ball of fire starts using LEDs instead of plasma  |
Quote:
Hopefully the fish gods don't smite you for that comment. Good to see ya back up and running again with minimal damage. |
Quote:
Thanks :D Well, the damage wasn't that minimal (lost all the fishes and shrimp). But its much better than what I expected, atleast for corals. Atleast my fev pieces (duncan, setosa and few others) made it through :) |
|
Happy birthday to me :D
Some awesome scores

Nice shots fo sho! Great cropping to make the image super nice. Nice to see the nee chromis is out and about.
|
Great pics. Tank looks awesome.

Quote:
Well they are chromis after all. They started eating while I was drip acclimating them in a bucket  And no hide and seek other than that one day when hawk was bringing order to them. But finally my tank has movements. The trigger seems to be afraid of everything other than a small space at the back of the tank and the hawkfish just chills! Quote:

Yes I agree your doing a great job with your tank. And nice pics.

Your tanks come a long way from just about giving up when you were doing the transfer |
Quote:
Yah this tank went through a lot of harshness from the beginning. I have high hopes for this one. Lets see how long I can keep it going. For now, I am trying to give the best for this tank  |
Sweet fish. Nice pics.

Updates
So it has been 9 days since I started zeovit and the change that I can see is my skimmer is pulling out lot more skimmate than before. Water looks clearer than before too. Haven't checked on nitrate or phosphate but really don't care about those for now since it was undetectable beforehand.
Alongside, I have added two clownfishes (a platinum and a false perc). I am a bit confused about the false perc because it has flared gills. Its not the typical burnt gill, looks more like deformation. Googled a bit and some fishes are born this way. Alongside, it is not very active too while the platinum keeps on running around. I am keeping an eye on it but no sign of sickness yet. It eats too. Any idea anyone? Anyway, here's some pictures with some techniques I recently learnt about taking aquarium pictures :D http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5527/1...9248360591.jpg DSC_9195 by md. raied, on Flickr http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7448/1...e0bb6e58a6.jpg DSC_9193 by md. raied, on Flickr http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3697/1...fefb2c9f10.jpg DSC_9190 by md. raied, on Flickr http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5528/1...1d1df21940.jpg DSC_9189 by md. raied, on Flickr http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3702/1...0bc962dce6.jpg DSC_9185 by md. raied, on Flickr http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3834/1...2114174565.jpg DSC_9184 by md. raied, on Flickr http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3678/1...4e4911c682.jpg DSC_9183 by md. raied, on Flickr http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5500/1...10af55af34.jpg DSC_9180 by md. raied, on Flickr http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2851/1...d4afaeb569.jpg DSC_9179 by md. raied, on Flickr http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7368/1...2cac6fd2ee.jpg DSC_9177 by md. raied, on Flickr http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5540/1...f75bab0f9a.jpg DSC_9176 by md. raied, on Flickr http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7313/1...8b27f03865.jpg DSC_9175 by md. raied, on Flickr http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3695/1...c134d834cf.jpg DSC_9171 by md. raied, on Flickr http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5524/1...d612f085d8.jpg DSC_9170 by md. raied, on Flickr http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2872/1...b149db6fa5.jpg DSC_9169 by md. raied, on Flickr http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5500/1...99dba3a8ea.jpg DSC_9167 by md. raied, on Flickr http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3682/1...7c3560cc1e.jpg DSC_9159 by md. raied, on Flickr http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2836/1...18f0b71557.jpg DSC_9157 by md. raied, on Flickr http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3726/1...d53ed990ee.jpg DSC_9155 by md. raied, on Flickr http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5528/1...f72f35c1e9.jpg DSC_9154 by md. raied, on Flickr http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3782/1...06d46b289c.jpg DSC_9153 by md. raied, on Flickr http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7296/1...ed005d62a9.jpg DSC_9150 by md. raied, on Flickr http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5518/1...b2ca1cb651.jpg DSC_9145 by md. raied, on Flickr http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2872/1...70f4dc2714.jpg |
