Sorry to hear about your issues :-(

I am digging your 'less is more' look though.

Reef Pilot 07-11-2013 06:19 PM

Very sorry to hear about your loss. You're taking it a lot better than I would... Goes to show it can happen to even the best... And thanks for sharing your challenges, and any lessons learned.

thanks

its been a hard few weeks , im pro qt but always end up taking the risk in my experience i should have known better but i do end up making the wrong choices sometimes too so ill chalk it up to a lesson learned.it was a violent strain of MI that took the fish out , it acted fast and with in a week it was here and gone and left its path of destruction on my fish.

right now we are going to enjoy the summer and im busy with the new store opening in aug so i have the ability to go fallow untill fall in which case we are deciding what to do with the tank as far as livestock is concerned.

the qt will stay running in case we decide to add any new fish and they will go for the same treatment as my current fish are getting.

3 wks in qt so far and everyone is doing amazing no signs of ich or any parasites but they have a ways to go still.

cheers

denny

update time again

ok so tank is back on track , all my fish were taken out of qt a couple days ago they did well in hypo for 2 mths and i lost only 2 in the process

ive recently decided to add another copperband and didnt want to put him through the qt process so heres taking another chance lol he looks fine and i did have him on hold at ther shop for a while to make sure he is active:) all other fish will go into the qt tank as i left it running just in case i need it again soon....i hope not:P

my current fish list.....its small:(

male flame wrasse(lost female in hypo)
mated trio of cardinals
pair of trojan clownfish
lawnmower blenny
filamented goby
copperband butterfly

so far the copperband is eating mysis after a couple of days of training and hes also eating my squamosa:shocked!: lol

anyways heres some pics the tank ,its still in hibernation mode untill i see where i want to go coral wise with it:)

cheers

denny

Proteus 08-12-2013 06:29 PM

Great pics Denny.

Nice collection. But I expect that as you always had a good eye for nice stuff. Interesting scape too!

JDigital 08-12-2013 06:43 PM

Those pieces of SPS look good Denny. I don't know where you will find room for them in your tank as it looks pretty packed.. but knowing you, you will find a spot. haha

Nothing wrong with it I just don't see as good results as my t5 growtank I'm considering the Ari hybrid so I may sell both my pros here right away :)

Holy frag tank Batman,...err I mean Denny.

Great pics thanks for sharing! The colour progression of those frags in just one months is awesome.

Denny I know it's in this thread somewhere but what's lighting this bad boy again? Is it Mitras? That colour progression is siiiiiiiick.

a pair radion pros for the display and 4 bulb tek light t5HO for the frag tank , the frag tank is 72 x 20 x 14"h and the light is pretty much 6" awl

honestly the colors in my display are horrid, drab and makes me puke....i think im done with leds by them selves, and am looking into the ati hybrid as a replacement.

2 weeks actually :P

thanks buddy finally sps is doing good for me , my dislay kills or browns them out immediately , cant figure out why , my fragtank on the other hand is growing zoos at a rate ive never had before and sps is full color and growing fast , ive had my poker star montis encrust the plugs they are on in a week and go from a brown blob to the nice rainbow color they are now , within a few weeks they should be neon green only with a blue base:):)

flow rate in the frag tank is:

7 x koralia 1400's
2 x koralia 1050's
mag 7 return pump

so lots of flow and lots of light , i also dont feed this tank.....no skimmer either ...au' natural but do run a fuge with cheato and lots of liverock

currently using zeovit amino acids
zeovit sponge power
zeovit coral vitalizer

Yah I have never seen colours on a tank that come anywhere close to what you seem to be able to get with T5s. I'm trying to find it in the thread, but do the systems share the same water? A little part in the back of my mind had always wondered if the differences I see in my tank compared to some T5 tanks was because of a the nutrient regime, but if you've got two frags of the same species, one under T5s, one under LEDs, but sharing the exact same water and you're seeing those kinds of differences... you're making a pretty compelling case for T5s lol.

I'm with you. Growth is good but def not liking the radion color wise. Seriously contemplating a mh again

no two different tanks not sharing water at all.

thats actually part my issue , display has fish and a regular source of pollution while the frag tank stays low nutrients and doesnt get any pollution added so i believe its a natural low nutrient without the use of carbon source:)

titus i agree growth is good under the leds but the colors make me sick lol:P

same here ive spoken to a few peeps and they have them and love them , these poeple are also poeple who have led experience so i trust their judgemnent. price is steep and thats whats stopping me at this point plus the fact if i get a 24" ati im stuck with 24"

lots of good review on rc for the ati's

i havent seen one in person or used one but its peaked my interest.

leds are def good but its hard to get a color i like with my pros:)

asylumdown 08-21-2013 11:11 PM

Yah the number one reason I went with LEDs was the level on controllability, it looks like you get all that and a piece of cake with the ATIs. I've had issues with colour as well, I find the LEDs are really difficult for some corals to adapt to, and I've watched in sadness as the metallic sheen of some corals slowly fades to a dull base colour in my tank. I know it's not just how the lights make the colours appear to me, because the coral will have the really psychedelic, metallic look that made me want to buy it in the first place for the first 5-7 days in my tank, but something in the radions is not encouraging the coral to keep producing that colour and it always fades over time. The worst was a blue tipped, green bodied stag acro. When I got it (previously grown in a T5 tank), the green body looked like metallic car paint, now it's just a dull green.

On the other hand, I have a purple bonsai valida that went insane under the LEDs, it almost hurts to look at it it glows so brightly.

Perhaps a hybrid fixture will create the best of both.
