also sad note this morning my elegance is not gonna make it, its lost about 25% since yesterday.
tonight i frag my first elegance and ill continue with treatment afterwards but chance of survival is slim to none:( |
Why not get a possum wrasse. They stay small
|
Sorry about your elegance.
I got a Disappearing Wrasse (Pseudocheilinus evanidus) in my sump, free if you want him, I have zero pods thanks to this guy but he's a bit aggressive towards new fish. |
great news!!!!
my mandy is alive!!! ok what she did in my mind is impossible for jumping fish let alone a mandarin lol heres the tale of her journey. one day she was happy eating all the pods but she was always curious about what the foods like in the overflow box.... now my overflow box is protected, its surrounded in eggcrate and doubled up so fish or crabs cannot get through. i didnt think to look in my sump as the m andarin would have to jump the eggcrate, swim into my overflow and find a way into my durso pipe, then she has to travel along the walls and the tubing to get thrown into my sump , even then theres not alot of places to hide. well she did just that??? today i noticed somethin in my sump i went dpwn for a look thinking it was my leopard wrasse who is residing there but low and behold...it was mandy!!! so now im a bit happier and she will be returned to the tank and the corris wrasse relieved of duties and my harleys added back to the tree top. elegance has gone from 100% to 25% in less than 48hrs....classic elegnace coral syndrome.....nothing you can do and survival is next to impossible.....another elegance down the drain:( fragging at this stage is not an option anymore:( the elegance will be removed this evening:( |

thanks its a packed little package for sure, last night the count on frags/colonies was 133 thats all on about 10-15lbs of rock and in a 25g tank lol its a shame my pics only show the bright or large colonies , every inch of the tree is covered in frags it takes a keen eye to pick them all out lol may look hectic but every piece glued had alot of thought put into and was strategically placed....mostly every piece lol cheers!! |
It's underwater art !

one of the things i wanted to do with this tank which i seemed to have trouble with in other tanks is too not fill it with common cheap suff, every time i see a deal i must have lol so this tank i wanted to be high end , just about every piece in there is collector pieces:) Quote:
i will add another elegance some day maybe when i get a bigger cube:P ive been thinking after seeing levis cube mine needs to be slightly bigger:P |

thanks man, i have half a dozen stuff to still glue on , plus a list of stuff i want a mile long lol |
The pictures do NO JUSTICE AT ALL to this tank! If possible, you should all try to visit Danny's place and see it upfront. You simply can't stop appreciating it.
Danny you should hold a open house tank showcase sometime  |

If your not careful you'll get hooked on SPS. They are slowly creeping into the reef - and looking good by the way!

update
so me and the roomate went and had a chat with dave at concept yesterday as hes building a tank for him , after some talking looks like im getting an upgrade to the bonsai tree.
the new tank will be 30 x 30 x 20h , eurobraced and center overflow(internal) steel stand ill put the new tank right in the same spot the current one is, the joys of having a rock structure that is built on a pvc frame is i just life it right out and in to the new tank lol stay tuned!! |
Considering your build is based on a tree type rock structure wouldn't you be better off with something a little taller?
|
Quote:
haha it is taller....2 inchs taller lol i hate tall tanks i did think it would be nice to have a bit more play on top of the tree but i hate 24" tanks and my tree is 18" on the nose.....my arms are a tight 22" lol i love the height of my cube now but just hate the width and length, i figure the extra 2" is a bonus as ill actually not use any of the extra height. i also now need to come up with a bunch more tempered glass:P although this tank is bigger than my other cube the only real issue i have with my other cube is no clearance around the tree for my fat arms lol plus more height meant more money lol |
You must have short arms  I was going to suggest 24", figured you're where probably using 10mm glass anyway which is still plenty for 30x24 but now maybe I'm thinking you're going with 6mm? The only reason I suggested the extra height was related to the sudden addition of SPS corals making their way into the tree

i would love the height but yeah its my short arms lol actually im not sure on the glass daves using he gave me a price and i was like " sold" lol prob is 10mm anyways so i doubvt the extra height would actually cost anything.....hummm now you got me thinking i should go 22" arghhh im just to damn short lol Quote:
yup thats it lol , plus i spend alot of time moving frags around so it would be nice to not have to be soaked everytime i did it lol :P |
Well remember a 22" tall tank is really only 20" of water
By the sounds of it you could probably just pull out the hole tree when you need to do some work on it  |

but the extra height just doesnt seem to be a bonus to me , its not like i can change my rock layout so 18" is the height it will always be so the only bonus besides some extra water volume would be the corals for how high they can grow , and because of my OCD to frag lol i doubt they will grow that high ;) and with 30" as the width it is nice to have to reach so far down to the back of the tank. biggest issues i have with my current cube is not enough space around the tree sides and the lighting. because of my sloppy tree design a single halide only really lights either the back or the front but not both , i am getting crazy growth from the intense lighting but im limited to only the front of the tree for frag real estate. this new tank is getting leds so ill prob be selling off a bunch of stuff from the tree thats grown in the last month to buy the lights for the new tank. |
Quote:
thats how it is now with my fragtank and i bet thats how it looks lol i also just set up a new fragtank to eliminate this problem im having period lol no more high tanks ;PPPP |
adding today a dark purple tube anemone and some aiptasia control for the bonsai tree.
