New pump is now here for the closed loop today and have it almost plumbed in. Longer cords added to 2 set's of my light's so they reach the timer panel which is 95% complete. Will be finishing up everything tomorrow night and do a water test on the closed loop.

Will add pic's tomorrow.

globaldesigns 04-09-2010 05:45 AM

All I can say is WOW!!! Now you want me to redo mine. I HATE YOU

I was just looking at your last plumbing shots of the OM4way. I very sad to tell you that you need to tear apart the plumbing that runs from the OM4ways to the valves and insert some unions in there. You have unions above the valves...but you need to have them between the valves and the OM4way as well.

Also, ensure that on the input side of the new pump it should be similar...valve, then union, then pump.

You need to be able to remove the pump and OM4way completely from the system for maintenance. The way you currently have it plumbed you won't be able to do that once it is full of water.

I have valve's in place so that I can kill the flow and pull out the pump's and the 4 way, the picture you where looking at was a test plumbing and nothing was glued together.

superduperwesman 04-09-2010 03:57 PM

So you've changed the orientation of the plumbing since the pictures? Otherwise only one of the outputs on the 4 way is set up right. IE union between the valve and 4-way. The way it is in the picture... you'll shut the valve > open the union > watch your tank empty.

This is how the plumbing is now that it is complete with a working pump:

And this is the lighting command center, still have to put face plates on the timer's. The yellow power box on the left is going to be for my pumps and 4 way.

:cry: YOU HATE ME :cry: that is not very nice Rick!!:lol:

The wife told me I have to do this the right way this time, so I hope I am in the ballpark of doing it the right way. And if I am a little off she will never know the difference.

andestang 04-09-2010 06:30 PM

Now the plumbing looks good. Everything seems to be coming along nicely. Don't remember reading it anywhere, but are you also planning on using any power head supplementation ?

The plan is not to have to use any power heads at all. With the closed loop running at 3600 gph and the return pump at 1100 gph the flow will be a constant clockwise rotation or counter clockwise depending on what end of the tank you are looking through.

lockrookie 04-09-2010 06:46 PM

i really like that idea i hate cleaning my koralias adn they just look out of place....i hope to utilise this on the future build of my 3 to 400g i want to build in my basement..leaning towards a plywood tank cant use glass daycare kids will throw a toy through it. would have to have acrilic front panel.

looks good griz hope the water test goes through good for you

Is that some sort of quick disconnect on both sides of the pump? It reminds me of the fittings used on a sink trap.

golf nut 04-09-2010 10:29 PM

How are you able to remove the pump, the inlet valve isn't a true union? is it a quick disconnect as Untamed mentioned?

Paul

The Grizz 04-10-2010 04:19 AM

#1 & 2 are 2" threaded fitting's that came with the pump and just unscrew to remove the pump. #3, 4, 5, & 6 are 1" couplers to remove the 4 way.

Sure can remove it fully just close all the 1" & 1 1/2" valves and unscrew the 1" unions and the 2" threaded fitting that attaches to the pump. #1, 3, 4, 5, & 6 and out it comes.

Tomorrow will be the big day to move the 8' into the house.

Sounds good Rick, I was able to find enough warm bodies with a heart beat to do some of the heavy lifting.

Tell me about it, it looked like I was pout on in that pic when we were just outside the door but it was from a little pain in the arm I had surgery on last year in Sept. Had to have the plate replaced in my left forearm because it was broken.
