2 months since the skimmer is in action!

We really think it's working great! I think this old technology is quit "soft" on the water... compare to using a needle wheel or other pomp that are hard on water...

our hait algae problems seems to end, the algae is dying and disolving!

The polyps extension is amazing!

My Harlequin Tuskfish eats nori too. For the longest time he just ripped off chunks and spat it out, but since I've been using the garlic enhanced nori he gobbles it up. Go figure.

josie 11-17-2010 01:23 PM

and I noticed that the radiant also loves green flakes...
weird fish!

josie 11-20-2010 08:35 PM

we cut the center brace on our tank and replace it by 2 brace, in between the MHs :)

no more shadow in the midle on the tank:

I saw my crocea clam spawning last night! (sorry no video)

How common is that in a home reef aquarium?

BlueTang<3 11-23-2010 01:06 PM

I was excited when my clam spawned also but it is actually extremely bad. Did it white out the entire tank? Tony (Delphineious) lost a large chunk of his live stock following a clam spawn.

josie 11-23-2010 01:17 PM

no it was not that much.. the clam is about 4"... so it's not a big clam...

Delphinus 11-23-2010 03:35 PM

I'm not sure how rare it is, I think it's reasonably uncommon for the most part but having said that I seem to get about at least once a year. My clams are older and larger than average though, so it could have something to do with size and age.

Most of the times the event seems small enough but I did have a massive clam spawn about a year ago that spiked my system hard enough that I did lose fish, I think it was due to O2 depletion, the fish that died were all breathing/pumping very hard and heavy in their final moments. Not much you can do to prevent it, if it happens it happens, just be sure to keep your carbon clean, skimmer clean and be ready to do a waterchange if need be afterwards.

josie 11-23-2010 04:04 PM

Delphinus: what was the size of the clam and your tank size?

Delphinus 11-23-2010 05:26 PM

Tank is a 115g cube (30"x30"x30"). I never did find out for sure which clam(s) it was that time but it may have been my 12" squamosa. Had another spawn about a month ago and it was my 8" maxima that time (thankfully nobody died that time but it still made a huge mess of the tank).

Brett???? Muck??? Anybody??? Ha ha I'm just kidding Tony, and I'm not trying to joke about the crappy experience...but yeah.

All being juvinille aside, this is a FANTASTIC looking tank...the colonies are incredible.

josie 11-29-2010 07:07 PM

thanks ;)

josie 12-07-2010 01:23 PM

winter arrived here yesterday.. about 8inch of snow on Montreal...
I noticed that the PH of the tanks started veried a lot since we close the windows and start heating more...
probably normal..the oxygenation of the room where the reef is may got lower... we will restart our kalkawaser reactor ;)
anyone notice this?

MitchM 12-07-2010 01:57 PM

Very nice.

I see you are using Seachem Matrix.
What do you think of it?

Mitch

we had to start cutting the undata! it's almost 19inch wide!

josie 12-16-2010 12:57 PM

we reconnect the kalk reactor, seems that the PH will be more stable with it in winter...

I'm thinking asking santa for some Hanna water testers :)

I have the phos one, and love it. Easy to use.

Just waiting on a local store to get the new Alk one in. Should be soon! Just waiting for them to get the new shipment (liquid reagent) in :) I hope it is as easy to use as the Phos one.

josie 12-22-2010 12:55 PM

thanks JonT :)

I want the alk one... and maybe the phos too

josie 01-03-2011 02:14 PM

I was so stress on december 23th!

Happy 2011 to all reefers that fallow my tread :)
wishing you healthy fish and great looking corals!
