I cried lol. never again do I plan on moving a tank.

So after a nice water change, 2 days later I am starting to get some positive signs. My water has finally cleared up, film algae is less and I finally have my skimmer set perfectly. Huge thanks to red coral, the skimmer pump died and kevin helped me rig together a working pump while we sort out getting a replacement.

I'm waiting till august till any sps makes it into the system

I wanted to cry when I saw your tank too  I've been there so I feel your pain. I'm glad you are pushing on though. That's the test of a true reefer

Maybe in August I can accidently waunder in to Red Coral there and pick somthing up that will accidently fall into your tank as part of your CLR program.

*Coral Loss Rehab

But on the upside

That still makes me laugh! haha.. While I was in Hawaii the neighbours actually asked Evan if we are growing anything in the basement, and had to show them the fish tank for them to believe him :P

I second that dude, DAMN THAT SUCKS!!!I'm with Mike on the whole SPS thing in my big tank as well, can't seem to get them to live. So I am going to do a small tank to try out some SPS in a smaller more controlled tank. Hope you can get thing stabilized.

Oh man its weird going from having a tank that you would love to show to having nothing. But in the past 3 years reefing has become a part of me... its one hobby that I will always enjoy and that I will never give up on (still waiting to find the girlfriend who shakes her head at me so i can joke around with you guys about it)

SPS is a royal pain in the ass. I had a conversation with another member that if and when I move I am going to shut this tank down and start over again. The stress was unbearable. A friend of mine who isn't into reefing said "oh it will only take a few months" little did he know that this was years in the making. Its hard watching something crash and burn that you have devoted all your time and money into. But life goes one, its only a tank and now I can rebuild it to my original plan.

This time around I am going with minimum rock. Keeping the small 3 islands and I am going for the look of a shallow reef environment. Like when your diving and you start hitting patches of rocks with coral on them, usually indicates that a larger area is coming up.

As for corals the far island is going to have a leather, florida ric's, purple deaths, and some "palm tree" paly's. Than the middle island is going to be pocci's, stylo's and one branching acro. the other corner island is going to have pink birdsnest, another branching acro and a digi (superman!). in the middle I want to add a nice sized rock for gsp (i like how it moves in the flow and it always adds a nice green color), than I am going to hunt down a short tentacle plate coral, last but not least... clams.

I'm really looking forward to this mixed reef. I still want to get this clown out and add a pair of picasso clowns and than a bunch of inverts.

today has been a good day, finally after 2 weeks I can start feeling like things are turning around

Oh.. I'm sorry to hear that this didn't work out for you..

silentcivilian 06-23-2011 06:33 AM

AND TO THINK!!! I have to find out reading his forum!!!

lorenz0 06-23-2011 03:28 PM

:redface:I'm sorry kody, but it was a nice run splitting rhodactis colonies with you. With your pred tank and my mixed reef I don't think things will turn out

on a side note this chick I have been talking to thinks I am nuts about this tank. meh

So late night insomnia is getting the worse of me... or maybe its the noise from my tank in such a small apartment

Since the move I have regretted not having enough time to properly prep for the tank being in my apartment. I have overseen many challenges and now I am starting to recover. The tank has cleared up after going through a cycle and all of the fish have survived. These are the problems I am facing now:

Noise - the design of the sump is producing alot of noise and I want to downgrade to a smaller pump (something in the 750gph range). I also want a new sump. I really wish I kept the 15gal I had on my cube because it was quite and I never had issues with bubbles.

Leaks - my check valve is leaking from one of the seals... awesome. Its 2 years old and I must have pinched it when I was putting everything back together. Its not a crazy leak but its enough that I need to wipe it every day. 2 of my bulk heads were previously leaking as well and I think its time to change them up.

Stand - its effing ugly. I hate looking at it and I want something that looks more "professional." I would like to get a metal one built. It makes the place look cheap and that just doesn't go with the flow of what i am trying to achieve here.

Overflow - I have always hated how I placed the overflow when I was in the designing process of my tank. I should have stuck to my gut feeling and put it in the corner. This is the biggest issue of them all. I can move the overflow but I will have to block on of my 1" returns, which isn't to big of an issue. Getting the new holes cut is the biggest issue of them all. I do not have the resources to do this or the space so am hoping I can find someone with experience that is willing to help.

Background - I wish mine was blue instead of black

So before the long weekend I am going to make my mind up. I don't have much livestock but most of my fish (besides my goby will have to go). Lucky for me all I have is a few florida ric's, a toadstool, and some acros I will end up getting rid of. I also have my 20gal still, surprisingly, and a 4 bulb t5 fixture. I am thinking about shutting this down till august..... than starting all over officially. So the project will be set back a few more months but I think doing everything right is better than having something that I slapped back together in a rush.

The Grizz 06-29-2011 03:08 PM

Anything I can do to help bud just give me a shout. If you where able to bring the tank here we could easily move the overflow, repaint the pack and build a stand in the shop in a day easy.

lorenz0 06-30-2011 03:09 PM

Thanks for the offer greg. Its funny cause after I posted this the skimmer kicked back up and the tank cleared up a wee bit. Still none the less, I hate my wooden stand lol

I've decided to let the tank run for a bit while I collect everything I need and than just hit it off in one weekend. July is really not the right month to do this since I am busy almost every weekend. I think once it is over and done with I will be statisfied with the final outcome.

As for live stock.... pushing it back till september. lol I have been trying to start up a new dart frog tank for the past couple of years but my fish tank keeps setting me back lol

lorenz0 07-07-2011 05:03 PM

Well this crazy guy needs someone to slap him

had a few friends talk some sense into me, plus my dad lecture me on money lol

so sps has started to go back into the system. everything is starting to turn around and this is the best the tank has been in just over a month.

As always... problems continue. Last night my tank started leaking at the check valve and some of the connections. So now this weekend I get to drain half the water, re-plumb the system, than work from there. I am probably going to hardline it to the check valve and after that I want to use flex line to the pump. next month hopefully I can skin the stand.

Will have to throw up some pictures later this weekend

JDigital 07-09-2011 02:59 AM

What a rollercoaster man!

lorenz0 07-13-2011 07:35 AM

dude, thats all it has been! aww one day it will be where it was again

finally some tests I can follow up with:

Salinity 1.025
Calcium 410
Dkh 7.5
No3 3ppm
P04 0.25

sadly I got rid of my Mg kit in the move but hopefully its consistent with the other measurements.

On the crappy side, has some rtn and stn this past week. The frag i got from fishytime decided one day that it hated its life and a pocci I got has a week bit of stn on it. I'm really hoping it bounces back.

On the bright side all the frags from dez are doing great! great extension from the milli

Also I am week 6 of dosing prodibio and wow is the only word i can use to describe this product. The 2 surviving sps from the original set up are starting to show great growth and color. The pink birdsnest is growing extremely fast and is starting to get that hot pink color and my tenius is starting to show some really nice blue on the tips.

So fingers crossed. I will have to shoot some pictures tomorrow

lorenz0 07-24-2011 12:02 AM

Finally pictures. The tank is looking better and better. I still have to re-do the return plumbing so early next month that will be my mission during a water change.

sorry all were taken with my iphone. can't find my cable for my digital

Thanks man! I think by christmas time those caps are going to look really nice. Also looking forward to how some of these acros fill in. I just need to find some gsp to put on on a seperate rock for the idiot.
