Mrfish55 03-07-2009 02:04 AM

Very clean, how do you find it compared to the Tunze? May need a couple of them myself:smile:

Skimmerking 03-07-2009 02:08 AM

I look at it this way the price doesn't fizz me. money is money i make it i spend it.

MR fish55 yes its very clean and compact too and the tunzes after seeing it its very bulky and take alot of space up.

you should get 4 of them ..lol

Just my opinion but I would go with the 40's if you are getting two, the 20's don't allow for wireless master/slave communication between the two.

It's not too bad if you think about how much money you can spend buying and scrapping lesser powerheads.

Skimmerking 03-07-2009 02:12 AM

Greg I thought that i read that it can be upgraded from a 20 to a 40 W

digital-audiophile 03-07-2009 02:18 AM

You can, eccotech sells un apgrade kit but they charge $150USD (~$190) per unit for the upgrade.

The cost differential between the MP20 and Mp40 new is about $140CDN so in the long run if you plan on upgrading they have you by the short and curlies. Just cheaper to buy the MP40 upfront IMO.

Good to know, I am debating switching out some of my k4's for tunzes, but now I'm gonna have to look at the MP40s

the vortechs are simply amazing everyone. I have neverseen so much flow and the wave was like 3 " in my tank i have to stop ot due i out it over the edge. ya they are
$500 but worth every penny i found my new toy and they dont take up any room neither. not like the tunze's or the wave box. the instructions are easy to read and assembly was a piece of cake.....

im happy

Hey Mike. I'd love to see the Vortechs working. What's the chance of a short video to see these babies in action?

Skimmerking 03-11-2009 08:34 PM

Christy there is nothing wrong with crackers and water
lance i will boot up a video just for you with the wave going

christyf5 03-11-2009 08:37 PM

Crackers and water? Puhleeze, thats for hagen powerheads.

Tunzes are still pretty primo and certainly were until you jumped on the vortech bandwagon! Heck 5 minutes ago you didn't even know what a vortech was

Skimmerking 03-11-2009 08:38 PM

lol have you been told today:smile:

Skimmerking 03-11-2009 08:39 PM

i guess i have a lot of post padding to do and what is it today pick on mike day, you brad, i had enough im going postal and then selling my vortechs

christyf5 03-11-2009 08:39 PM

lol, no I just have better things to spend my money on. I'm sure they're the shizzle but I'll just sit back until you sell them cheap to get money for your new skimmer

Rbacchiega 03-11-2009 09:11 PM

The shizzle eh? *rolls eyes*

Do you only have the one 40, Mike? I'm thinking of getting the 20 for my 50 gallon...

christyf5 03-11-2009 09:12 PM

I do believe he is getting another one in the near future.

Rbacchiega 03-11-2009 09:15 PM

I'm so up in the air over this stupid powerhead! One minute, I'm all for it. I see the results people are having etc and I think "how could I go wrong?! That'd be perfect for the rimless tank" Then I read how they can be a little noisey and I don't want that in my bedroom....grrrrr

christyf5 03-11-2009 09:16 PM

I guess it depends on how sensitive you are to sound. Does white noise lull you to sleep?

Noise is realitive to how you set it up, you need to adjust for glass thickness and play with the alignment of the magnets, I am considering getting rid of my tunze wavebox (I find it to be louder than the Vortech)and going with the Vortech's.

Rbacchiega 03-11-2009 09:21 PM

*shrugs* Usually the TV is on, so I don't imagine it should be a problem. Worse comes to Worse I can stick the vortech on the 90 gallon for some extra flow (even though I'm already at 40x rotation)...

Sigh....off to drop another 400 into this tiny little 50 gallon tank....

Well since you seem kind of down about it, here's what I will do...send it to me and I will test it out, let you know if its worth it and how the noise is (I sleep across from my tank) and then if its all good, you can buy yourself another one! And by "it" I mean two MP40's.

Rbacchiega 03-11-2009 10:42 PM

uuuuuuuuuuuum how 'bout no. YOU send ME your tank...and I'll send you mine.

Well...You gotta pay shipping. And I would have to find a box big enough to fit my tank and stand in.

Sorry Mike...waaaaaaay off topic ;)

Oh, I guess Mikes not going to be around for a little bit.

Skimmerking 04-12-2009 03:40 AM

Well its time for a few pic i took the paint of the right side of the tank, actually i had a small piece peeled off to watch the fish ,but ended u-p taking the rest of the paint off to see and I really like the look of the side look.
